Built by King Marine in Argentina in 2008, LA LUNA looks, and is, the business. The result of collaboration between her owner and Bill Dixon, they have delivered totally on the brief:
• Light easily driven hull.
• Powerful sailing for serious passage making over long distances.
• Light and airy innards.
• Really good accommodation for her owner and 4 guests.
• Proper crew accommodation.
• Ability to sail by her owner and his captain alone.
During her short life she has sailed from Buenos Aires to Rio, through the Caribbean, she then cruised both the East and West Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean and back again. This last passage saw her arrive in Palma from Antigua after only 19 days. She has since been repositioned in Northern Europe.
In 2010, LA LUNA had a nautical makeover. Work included an Awlgrip paint job from truck to keel as well a re-lacquer of all the interior woodwork forward of the mast. She also had a new uber funky cockpit table fitted as well as a new fibre furling staysail, halyard, sheets and all that. 2010 also saw a new Fleet 150 installed.
Constructed of vacuum infusion e-glass with PVC foam core on a male mould with carbon stiffening, she is as light as a feather, yet as strong as a truck.
Her interior is finished in Haya Beech veneers throughout which look the business.
Aft there is a vast owners’ cabin…
With a large double cabin for guests…
AND a further upper and lower berth cabin which is also perfect as a passage cabin.
We love the engine room, which is accessed aft of the main saloon, and is white, gleaming and offers great access to the air conditioning, Lugger 250hp main engine, Northern Lights generator and all the other kerfuffle that she needs for easy operation. Good access is the key to reliability of ships’ systems.
The main saloon provides panoramic vision and is a great place to be.
Steps then take you down to the lower saloon with a galley to port in which Jamie Oliver would certainly be at home.
The crew quarters are forward and are some of the best that we have ever seen on a yacht of this size.
Outside there is a vast entertaining cockpit and twin wheel arrangement which offers great vision. Her foredeck is totally clear and her sail handling systems simple and well co-ordinated. A hydraulic boot with good lazarette stowage works well.
LA LUNA is very superior magic carpet material and is now offered for sale via Berthon.
