Broker’s Comments

ROMERO was built in Guernsey by Aquastar in 2005 and is of the classic 48 range offering all weather cruising and fantastic live aboard qualities. The twin shaft drive installation is powered by Volvo Penta TAMD75P offering 480hp per side. She is comfortable trolling at 5 knots or cruising at 15 knots plus, making way without fuss.

Stepping on board ROMERO I found her to be in a well maintained condition and clearly cared for with curtains drawn and dehumidifier running! The owner is experienced and has ROMERO running in ship shape working condition. Cosmetically she is NOT perfect having been properly used by both the current and previous two owners.

She is specified for both Mediterranean & UK cruising with reverse cycle air-conditioning, hydraulic gangway and is stabilized for the more lively days at sea! The 2.7m Vetus dinghy and recently purchased Honda outboard will also be going with the sale of this pedigree offshore beast.

Owner’s Comments

I bought ROMERO whilst living overseas as a “home base” in the UK. We typically returned for three months each summer so she has only had light use for the last three years. During this time we have cruised as far West as the Isles of Scilly along the South coast and up the East coast as far as Amble making port calls almost everywhere in between.
Knowing I was only going to use the boat for a few months at a time I invested in a full cover from the onset and while not in use ROMERO has sat on the hard fully protected externally with a dehumidifier running internally to keep her warm and dry.

Our round Britain cruise was put on hold by Covid last year but that is another story…..

We chose ROMERO because the layout was good for living aboard and because of her semi-displacement hull form. Having been involved in all things “marine” throughout my life in a range of technical positions I wanted a good sea boat and her commercial / pilot boat heritage is clearly evident.

ROMERO has fulfilled both requirements admirably with all creature comforts required for extended periods aboard and superb sea keeping aided by stabilisers which I have found to be very functional.
I generally cruise around 15 knots at which speed the two powerful Volvo engines are very much at ease and will run happily all day. If more speed is required, to make a tide or just for fun, they spring into life and will push the boat along in excess of 20 knots in an equally effortless fashion.

We normally pilot the boat from the fly-bridge which gives an excellent view. When the seas increase ROMERO still motors along well but of course spray can make things a bit damp up there and I will give up long before the boat does when retiring to the inside helm can be more relaxed.

ROMERO had two owners before me, I never met the first owner but his notes and methodical approach remain onboard as a source of information. The previous owner had her for about nine years and I believe voyaged up and down to the Med several times. When I asked him how he crossed the Bay of Biscay his response was “straight across! ” I now understand that response, she inspires confidence with her seakeeping ability.

Having now relocated to the UK I wish to trade down in size so regrettably am looking to part with ROMERO. She has obviously been used and is not in showroom condition but is a good, honest boat with everything sorted out and will bring much pleasure to an owner who is looking for something capable of relaxed living onboard with adventurous cruising possibilities. ROMERO is in the water and ready to go.
