COOL BREEZE was the first of her class and was built for the owner of the yard to his own high specifications. This Y8 DC is a light displacement carbon performance sailing yacht for fast passage cruising.
She is designed to accommodate six persons and a crew of two. The interior has clean lines, is rather minimal and yet functional. There are various cleverly thought out solutions incorporated throughout.
The emphasis for this yacht was on the owner and living accommodation. Hence the owner accommodation aft is very comfortable with centre line double bed, settee, desk area, walk in wardrobe and its own access up to the deck.
The saloon is simply decorated and has been modified since initial launch – there is now a sofa and two chairs to port with the dining area to starboard. The furniture is easily changed out by a new owner should they wish for a new personalized style or colour scheme.
The chart area is aft of the seating area on port side. The crew cabin is aft again from there.
The galley is aft of the saloon on starboard.
Guest cabins are forward, each with full ensuite head and shower and with double berth.
Despite the Y8’s impressive size, a light breeze is enough to get the boat clipping along, thanks to fast lines. In planning the deck and rig layout for COOL BREEZE attention was paid to making the vessel extremely easy to handle – she was conceived to be able to be sailed by her owner with one crew. Details include carbon Axxon spars, fully battened main with switch track, Park Av style boom, and lazy jacks; self-tacking jib; powered winches well positioned by the helm.
Installations of systems and equipment was also made with a view to easy servicing and to keep everything simple, reliable, and lightweight. This owner’s mantra was “keep it simple” (as much as is possible in a yacht of this class and high quality).
