Buck Pegg founded Chaparral in South Florida in 1965 and took the decision to move their facility to Nashville in Georgia, USA, with president Jim Lane, where they have now been successfully constructing glass fibre sport boats for well over 40 years and employ over 900 people. When buying Chaparral you are assured of their excellent build quality, which is why all of their boats come with a Standard Limited Lifetime Hull Warranty. Clever design and outstanding value in the 18 – 35ft range, has kept them in business for over 50 years and with their substantial slice of the market share, there are no signs of that changing any time soon.
The Chaparral 285 SSX is sleek, stylish and has all the features needed for fun day on the water, with even the option of spending a night on-board. The open cockpit design flows well and seats eight comfortably, including a double bolstered helm seat giving the skipper company on passages. The sun pad is a surprising feature on a boat of this size, which has a headrest that flips up to provide a backrest for a more social setting when required. The SSX 285 has been well thought out, with plenty of refrigeration capacity and a generous amount of storage, clearly with water sports activities in mind. Down below we have the all-important separate electric head and a comfortable saloon that will convert easily into a double berth. Chapparal standard options are substantial, which means you will often find these boats well equipped and very practical.
“Xscape” was highly specified from new and delivered to the current owner in 2014, into Berthon’s Lymington Marina, where she had the synthetic “Tek-Dek” panels fitted. She has been kept in Lymington and has been lightly used with low engine hours, which does reflect in her general condition. “Xscape” is well equipped including; black gelcoat hull, holding tank, electric head, underwater lights, fridge, microwave, shower, Samsung flat screen TV, Glomex TV aerial, Clarion sound system, bimini, camper canopy, tonneau cover, chart plotter and shore power. Under the hydraulic hatch, we have the largest engine option at the time, 8.2L Mag Mercruiser petrol engine that produces 420 horsepower through a Mercruiser outdrive with duo prop. Servicing has been carried out by the local Mercury agent with all documentation present and correct.
