Broker’s Comments

ZULU is a special custom-built yacht. She has many great features. For a start, her specific design (by Acubens Yacht Design) gave her more volume and space than other yachts of the same length.

Her underwater lines, keel and rudder compete in effectiveness with any of the best designs today.

She is a very comfortable, safe and fast sailing yacht. Her behaviour at sea is impressive. She is truly an ocean-going vessel. Her design above the water line, in addition to having a great aesthetic appeal has a perfect design for use when cruising. The cockpit is large and comfortable, offering a level of comfort rarely seen in a sailboat of these dimensions.

The design also divided the manoeuvring area and the relaxation area, to avoid possible discomfort caused to the guests in any of the manoeuvres. The interior is spacious and bright, with a large living room and four cabins with bathroom and individual shower (plus a fifth cabin for a crew).

However, what really makes her unique, the most remarkable thing, is her construction:

The hull and interior structure is built of CORTEN steel (Cupro-nickel; high content of chromium, copper and nickel).

This steel has two very important characteristics:

  • The first is its great mechanical strength, comparable to high carbon resistance steels. This feature allows a lighter construction giving the yacht a lower displacement than other materials, and an infinitely higher resistance, which gives it maximum safety in navigation.
  • The second is the total absence of corrosion. The deck, cabin and cockpit are built in STAINLESS STEEL. This material, in addition to having a great mechanical resistance, avoids any type of corrosion or oxidation, always providing an impeccable appearance to the most seen and used area of the boat. The deck is of course lined with teak.

Owner’s Comments

We built ZULU to be an ocean cruising yacht. She is strong and safe.

Carinox did all of the steel work building hull & deck. Our own company Gabinette Naval did all of the interiors, installations etc. using skilled labour and top-quality international suppliers.

We have used her mainly in the Atlantic area cruising Canary Islands and the Caribbean.

ZULU had a refit between November 2018 and January 2019, including:

  • Sand blasting the underwater hull area and repainting.
  • Cleaning and painting of all bilges and parts of the interior.
  • Disassembly, inspection and painting (Awlgrip) of mast, boom and 2 poles.
  • Disassembly, inspection of the standing rigging and replacement of some parts as required.
  • Disassembly and replacement of the shaft and shaft gland (Shaftseal), as well as inspection of the propeller and replacement of its mobile parts and anode.
  • Disassembly, inspection of the rudder and replacement of bearings and seal (Shaftseal).
  • New main sail, as well as Lazy Jacks and cover.
  • The rest of the sails have been reviewed and had a new sun protection strip.

As proof of the quality and reliability of this ship, it is important to point out that the ZULU has made a total of 22 transatlantic crossings, all of them with absolute success, that is to say, with a total absence of any noticeable breakdowns. Many have been held in the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) obtaining very good results in all of them.

In addition, almost all these crossings have been made in the charter regime.

From her launch to the present day, the ZULU has made good charter seasons both in the Mediterranean and in the Caribbean.
