Broker’s Comments

The Discovery 55 is a classic offshore yacht, designed by Ron Holland and built in the UK by the Discovery shipyard. These yachts can be sailed with just a crew of two – while comfortably accommodating a crew of six. They offer sailors the opportunity to take on any ocean with safety and ease. Hull #052 AMAMAN is the last Discovery 55 to be built, therefore – she is as new throughout and from build the owner carefully chose options to make ocean passage making a breeze. She has an extensive list of impressive electrical and sails equipment onboard.

Down below, the newer design Mk II gives you a more open saloon with raised seating for 8-10 people and larger windows allowing a more light and airy feel. She offers three cabins with a full width owner’s cabin aft and two further cabins forward, giving comfortable berths for 7 guests. From her launch in Southampton, UK the owner sailed down to the Canaries for ARC 2019, winning in her class! Since arriving in the Caribbean, she has been enjoying cruising in these warm waters and now looking for new owners to take her forward to the next adventure.

Note

She will be partaking in the ARC Europe arriving Med/Balearics Summer 2022 & available for viewings.

Owner’s Comments

AMAMAN is a beautiful Discovery 55, the last built of the model. After researching, sailing and visiting many yards, I had narrowed the list of possibilities for the boat I intended to buy for my new life after retirement, meant to start with a trip around the world. She has proved to be what I expected. A safe, easy sailed yacht to carry us across the oceans in comfort, luxury and safety.

I took delivery in Southampton, UK after living near the yard for 4 months at the end of the build. During the previous months since placing the order, I had traveled to visit the yard once a month for a week. This allowed me to specify every option with care and hopefully common sense and to watch the construction closely.

We crossed the channel to Guernsey for registration and export, then sailed north to Holland and traveled its canals. In August 2018, we sailed to Portugal and Cadiz, and onwards to the Canaries to join ARC 2018 to St Vincent, arriving in early December.

We spent December 2018 to July 2019 in the Caribbean, traveling the whole chain from Grenada to St Martin 4 times with different friends, confirming what a pleasure the boat is both for bluewater and for cruising around with friends and family.

We took it to Curacao and then Bonaire for hurricane season 2019. The pandemic forced us to stay in Bonaire until the different countries re-opened their borders by the end of 2021.

In December 2021, my son and myself sailed it from Bonaire to Puerto Rico; 600 miles closed hauled and with the current setting us west under 25-30 kn of the trade winds. We were surprised at how tolerable her movement was under such usually considered tough conditions. We arrived rested and happy to PR in excellent time.

From Puerto Rico, we cruised during Christmas and New Year holidays with family in the Spanish and US Vis; then proceeded to Florida by way of the Old Bahama Channel in February. March in the Bahamas with friends and family and then off to Europe with ARC Europe 2022, from Florida via Bermuda and the Azores.

The boat does always surprise us at how easily it gets good speed under any conditions and gentle motion.

The galley is a real kitchen and so are its fridge and freezer. All in all, what a boat.
