Broker’s Comments

The Discovery 58 is a world class cruising yacht built in the UK to stunning designs from Ron Holland. AQUALUNA was the first of the sisterhood to splash. Her owners previously owned a Discovery 55, which they had sailed extensively including through the Pacific to New Zealand. Her specification reflects their bluewater experience and their knowledge of Discovery. They chose a single steering position in the spacious cockpit and a fully battened mainsail for easy, powerful sailing and good control. Down below her maple interior provides a very light and airy place to spend time, and the signature Discovery deck saloon and large hull windows means that light floods in. In common with other Discoverys, she has a fantastic chart table that is elevated, making internal watch keeping a reality.

AQUALUNA has been a great success, cruising in the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic with the ARC. She has enjoyed great cruising in the Caribbean. Sadly, her owners’ plans have now changed, so they will not undertake the World cruise that was originally planned for the yacht. As she has long legs and great potential, they did not want to waste this on local warm water sailing and hence she is now being offered for sale.

She is a stunning looking yacht, which has been carefully maintained and which has proved herself to be the perfect size for a couple to sail long distance aboard. Of course, with a volume that is around 45% greater than the Discovery 55, she also offers lots of space for guests.

Now at Berthon UK for sale – she has just completed a pitstop. Work includes a full service of main engine and generator. The normal end of passage niggles have also been rectified and the companionway steps have been stripped and re-varnished. Small wear areas in the main saloon have also been re-varnished as needed. She has had a full valet inside and out and she is gleaming.

AQUALUNA has proved herself to be a very capable world class cruising yacht. She has been sailed extensively by a husband and wife team. During these many passages she has been well mannered and easy to sail. She offers fast passage times. Because of her remarkable layout the VIP cabin forward is very large with a lot of storage making her perfect for extended cruising with 2 couples. Guests have a large area forward of the main saloon to themselves. The upper and lower berth cabin aft of the VIP is very large with wide, long berths and ample storage and is again, perfect for long-term use. Her interior chart table/watch keeping station much reduces any pressure felt by smaller crews as watch keeping can realistically be managed from the protection of the deck saloon. In addition, all sail handling can be accomplished without leaving the cockpit making for convenient and safe 2-handed sailing.

Owner’s Comments

AQUALUNA is our second Discovery and the first of the Discovery 58s. We wanted a reliable bluewater cruising specification and worked with the Discovery Shipyard to deliver on this. We have been very happy with our Discovery magic carpet – she has carried us far in great comfort. Now that we will not be undertaking our world cruise, it is time for AQUALUNA to find new owners who will use her to her potential. We hope that they will be as happy with her as we have been and that they too will experience the joy of blue water cruising aboard her. She has looked after us through every type of weather, she is strong and sturdy. She is exceedingly comfortable to live on.

CABIN SOLES below throughout are Marine Amtico light oak and so easy to maintain.

MASTER CABIN has a king size bunk, huge amounts of light, a dressing table or as I used it as a desk to write. The Otterman/seat has storage underneath for such things as shoes. Two massive drawers under the bunk and drawers at the side under the portholes, two huge hanging lockers.

FORWARD GUEST CABIN has a very good size queen size bunk, storage underneath and a massive drawer under the bunk, a long cupboard with shelves and a hanging locker.

PULLMAN CABIN has very wide and long pullman berths, drawers to the side and underneath, and a hanging locker.

SALOON great for sitting below decks on a wet day, can view outdoor life from there, massive amounts of storage under the saloon seats, a beautiful table that pulls out to seat 8 people and closes to seat 4-6, in maple and birds-eye maple. Cocktail cupboard, fridge, pop up flat screen television, bookshelf, chart drawer, large locker that I used for a medical kit. Cleaning cupboard with plug for charging the handheld Dyson.

Raised chart table with comfortable seat where the yacht can be controlled from in inclement weather.
GALLEY better than my kitchen at home! A massive fridge and a massive 6 basket front opening freezer. Two stainless steel sinks, Corian sunken drainage area amid ships so that things can be left to drain when at sea or you can put your coffee pot there when at sea. Five burner wide gas oven, Combination electric microwave which can be used as an extra oven when in a marina or with the generator on. Corian work surfaces and massive of storage. A large porthole to the cockpit to serve drinks and food to the crew.

STORE/UTILITY ROOM with Miele combination washer dryer, shelves above for linen or other storage, a door with good tool kit fixed to it to the engine room. On wet days close the sliding door to this room, open the engine room, hang your washing on the ceiling hooks and within an hour they are dry.

ENGINE ROOM has easy access to generator and watermaker.

COCKPIT has very comfortable, high backed, American made self-draining cushions made with Sunbrella material. Everything, including reefing lines are managed from the cockpit. The yacht is super easy to handle single handed if necessary.

The dodger and bimini are made from a very easy clean, strong Stamoid material in America. Lots of good view of the sails with the bimini up and good all round view through the dodger, the centre panel unzips for more air. Two whisker poles, great for downwind sailing with the genoa and staysail goose-winged; you can roll them in like a Venetian blind if you have a squall coming up behind you and can do this single handed without leaving the cockpit.
