Broker’s Comments

The Fairline Phantom 46 DRAGONFLY is currently still in her first ownership and is fitted with the twin Volvo Penta D9 engines, offering 500hp each. She boasts incredible space inside and out, perfect for socializing with friends and suitable for larger families to enjoy the water. She is a straightforward flybridge cruiser that is in every way practical and stylish. She benefits from a great fully enclosed cockpit, with bench seating to stern.

To stern, you will also find a single crew cabin with a separate washbasin and toilet. The access can be found under the bench seating area. She is fitted with a Besenzoni passerelle, which can be used to crane the tender on and off the boat when needed. The only access to the flybridge is also in the cockpit, which is just off to port where you will find a half-moon seating area with a table and a large wet bar. The bar is fitted out with a BBQ grill, a separate sink and a drinks fridge to keep all beverages cold. Leading back down to the cockpit you will find a single sliding door leading into a clean, bright and open saloon. The second helm positon can be found over to Starboard, and a fully fitted galley and an entertainment unit with an extra drinks fridge over to Port.

DRAGONFLY is offered in lovely condition. Her fastidious owners have cared for her very well and no expense has been spared in terms of her up keep. The owners have cruised extensively, including Holland, France, Belgium and Ireland. She offers fantastic sea keeping and is incredibly economical. The navigation to both the helm & flybridge are all very much up together with the addition of the auto helm tridata and EVC switch panel – she will certainly not disappoint. Teak can be found laid throughout the cockpit and bathing platform.

Accommodation is spread over three well-appointed cabins, plus a crew cabin. There is plenty of space for the owners and their guests. The forward and double mid-cabin are both en-suite and have separate showers. The bunk has more than enough space for two adults to sleep comfortably.

The build quality and performance of this 2005 Fairline really would put a modern standard motor yacht to shame.

Owner’s Comments

In 2006 we purchased DRAGONFLY at Essex Boatyard, Port Solent, from their stock, which was registered in 2005.

We were looking to upsize to a boat that could easily be handled by 2 people and would be comfy to explore the coastline of the UK and Northern Europe. 14m, we felt, was the ideal size because this handles well at sea and for which it is relatively easy to find visitors moorings.

Our previous boat was a Phantom 38.

When we purchased the 38 we were changing from sail to power and I was nervous about handling a powerboat. We soon realised that whilst the 38 was an excellent boat the 46 would better meet our needs.

The difference in sea keeping and accommodation was incredible. Surprisingly, we also found manoeuvring the bigger boat to be easier.

The original cockpit cover sloped so much that it was uncomfortable to sit under. We designed and commissioned a new fixed frame and cover which has made the cockpit an extremely pleasant place to sit and entertain. Once done it felt like we had built an extension.

DRAGONFLY is equipped with stern and bow thrusters which make it easy to manoeuvre berthing and in locks.

Originally we had specified cameras for mooring, which proved unnecessary, and a satellite dome for TV, with radios in the bedrooms and saloon.
Now marinas have WiFi we have replaced that system with digital TVs in the double bedrooms and a smart TV in the lounge.

One criticism of this model was the long step down from the saloon to the kitchen which could be a safety hazard. We added a handrail with a glass panel for safety at sea which has also proved useful as a towel rail in harbour.

DRAGONFLY has exceeded our expectations and as well as the English coast we have cruised to the Channel Islands, N. France, Belgium, Holland, Wales, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

DRAGONFLY has been kept in the Solent apart from one season in Wales and a couple of years in St Katherine’s Dock which allowed us to enjoy London using the boat as a base.

Sadly the years are catching up with us and we will soon have to let her go. She has given us great pleasure and happy memories, we will miss her enormously.
