Broker’s Comments

The Farr 60 is a one of a kind yacht. She has the impressive Farr hull design which offers fast, safe comfortable cruising which if course means quick passage times and rewarding sailing. Built by Najad, build quality speaks for itself. SWEET CHARIOT was built by her current owner and she has enjoyed many an Atlantic circuit and summers in the Med.

Clever design allows her to have a fantastic deck saloon where light floods and offers all round vision whether you are sat relaxing at anchor or sailing and want to stay down below. Accommodation is a plenty with an enormous owners cabin with ensuite featuring a bath.

Sporting a 2018 teak deck her owner has maintained her extensively throughout her life substantially at Berthon.

She is a fantastic Bluewater cruiser which has oodles of capability. She has however done a lot in her life so far and would benefit from a pitstop giving her a new lease of life to go on adventures with her new owner.

Owner’s Comments

The Farr 60 is based on the Whitbread 1994 Round the World hull designed by Bruce Farr. Ours was built by Najad in 1998/99 and we were allowed to modify the layout and add a hardtop Bimini – we wanted to be able to sail it in comfort in UK waters in winter and hot sunny Caribbean waters.

We wanted a yacht that could accommodate two couples and ourselves in double cabins with ensuite facilities and have a saloon and galley where everyone could feel together while the meal was being prepared – and where one could reach by walking forward down a few steps rather than a ladder!

We have sailed Sweet Chariot for 18 years on the south coast of England and in Brittany plus the initial cruise in Sweden and Norway and every winter in the Caribbean. She is a perfect yacht to live on for long periods and is easily controlled to cope with all weathers to the extent that I often sail on my own. All sails can be reefed or let out from the very secure cockpit completely protected from the elements.

Sweet Chariot is a very fast cruising yacht – on her 17 years of trans Atlantic crossings she has frequently beaten the 200 miles a day mark. In a squall off the Azores she once recorded 21.4 knots under reefed Genoa! In the 2016 Round the Island race she came 9th in her class – you can see this on the video link attached. I guess that is Bruce Farr’s design.

One of my favorite memories is sitting in my hammock chair suspended under the boom on the stern deck with the full length canopy rigged from mast to stern at anchor in the fabulous anchorages of the Caribbean at the end of an exhilarating passage through the Atlantic swell between the islands in crystal clear water. I shall miss her and I hope that her new owners have as much pleasure as we had.

RTI 2016:

From a previous crewmember:
I enjoyed the four Atlantic crossings I did on her, sometimes challenging but always a pleasure. The trip this Spring was exceptionally enjoyable and being my 30th crossing and probably my last, was a good note to go out on.
