Broker’s Comments

COOL CHANGE is an iconic functional powerboat that we know well. Originally called GREY WOLF, she was built for an experienced yachtsman who used her in the Southern Hemisphere. We sold her to her second UK owner when she was in New Zealand. He sailed her from Whangerai in North Island, back to the Channel Islands. A voyage of around 12,000 nautical miles, against prevailing winds and currents, you can visit her blog, which makes fascinating reading http://greywolf.berthoninternational.com/archived/. During the voyage, a series of Berthon apprentices sailed aboard her and this yacht now has a very special place in the hearts of everyone at Berthon. GREY WOLF II is an FPB 78 and shows how much this owner loved his FPB 64. She is also RCD compliant and fully set up for both European and world wide cruising. Her current owners purchased her in the UK and have cruised with her in the Mediterranean, crossing the Atlantic and cruising in the Caribs and then in the lovely waters of the East Coast of the USA. She has proved to be a reliable, comfortable cruising platform on which a family can live well, and experience extraordinary things.

Owner’s Comments

COOL CHANGE became a part of our family at a time when the routine of life had us longing for more. The previous owner and the FPB community bent over backwards to make sure we were up to speed and safe. This was our first boat after all!!!

With two small children, a life in the Midwest, and one of us ‘suspect’ about this whole ‘boating thing’, an FPB was the only choice; safe, reliable and comfortable. Our first trip was Dad, son and two FPB experts – bringing her home to the USA across the Atlantic. Wow! From there, we cruised the Bahamas as a family on our own, moved the boat to the Mediterranean for more of the same, then back to the Bahamas and the East Coast of the USA.

Everywhere we have travelled, COOL CHANGE has been a star. Her ease of handling, rugged looks and copious water and electricity supply have been the envy of the anchorages. Our ‘crew’ could park, clean in and out, and have dinner ready in under an hour at each stop. Our dinghy, a 12’ inflatable ‘CHUMP CHANGE’, is easy to launch and has provided us with some great adventures on her own.

The FPB brand definitely lives up to its reputation of ‘easily maintained’. Any mechanical or electrical bugs that we have encountered have each time been simpler to solve than we feared. This is due in large part to the yacht’s design and also the generous spares her previous owner supplied to us. We have adopted his strategy and you can be assured that COOL CHANGE has an amazing inventory of parts and pieces.

Our decision to sell her was a tough one as our time aboard and the experiences that she has brought us are something we will forever treasure. Timing is everything though, and we feel that there is someone out there with both too much dock space and too much ‘routine’ to pass her up.
