The Grand Banks 43 is the touchstone quality fast cruising motor-yacht; blending classic Downeast styling, comfortable sea manners, timeless interior fit-out and heavyweight pedigree. Ray Hunt’s hull profiles are near legendary, and the sharp forefoot, pronounced vee and muscular lines of the 43 follow this trait perfectly. Safe, broad side decks lead out of the deep aft cockpit, with a tall, varnished timber toerail encompassing the teak-laid decks forward, and her flybridge gives a superb all-round view to helm from.
Her saloon is trimmed in typically well-executed teak, with a complementing teak and holly timber floor throughout, signature large windows for exceptional light and felling of open-ness, a cosy three-seater sofa and table to starboard and a sideboard to port, with two loose tub chairs. The helm console – with direct side deck access to the starboard deck – lies forward to port, with a chart table opposite, and three treads lead forward and down to the open-plan galley. The working galley area is U-shaped, with plenty of light, ventilation and storage options. To starboard the guest twin bunk cabin is set behind sliding pocket door, with access across the corridor to the shared heads, and forward to the shared shower cubicle. The master cabin is in the bows – with a centreline raised double, two hanging lockers, drawers and lockers, and again – lots of light via the side port-lights and overhead deck-hatch.
It is a super-workable layout, with very easy access to her Caterpillars via a short removable ladder, through a large access hatch set into the saloon sole. Filters, seacocks and service points are easily to hand, and these big dependable V8s.
“As a fisherman I can honestly say that this has been an amazing boat to handle in bad weather. She is an absolute pleasure at her top speed of 26/27 knots, and very economical fuel-wise at 22 knots. The Caterpillars are real commercial work-horse engines and burn figures are easily downloaded.
“Privateer” will give a great deal of pleasure in great comfort, with real head-turning style – we are admired everywhere we go. She is a true modern classic – an E-type on the water.
We hope she goes to someone special.”
