Island Packet 40, MAGIC WEDNESDAY is a wonderful cruising yacht. With the famous Island Packet build quality throughout, she will be able to tackle any ocean. On deck, the boomed staysail is a great help when going upwind with limited crew and the large safe cockpit makes her a great boat for long distance cruising. Down below, she offers a comfortable two staterooms layout, with a large saloon & galley. MAGIC WEDNESDAY is now ready for her continued sailing adventures.
I fell in love with MAGIC WEDNESDAY in Menorca in 2002, when I was living on my previous boat and about to cross the Atlantic. She is a very pretty boat and perfectly set up to live aboard and sail easily. When the owner wanted to sell in 2007, I jumped at the chance to own her. He had crossed the Atlantic twice in her and kept her in immaculate condition. I still refitted and re-rigged in 2008, given the amount of sailing she had done since new.
Since then I have kept her in the Med, berthed in Barcelona (with summer moorings in Menorca) and then Corfu, Athens and most recently Sardinia. We have cruised the Balearics, taken her from Barcelona to Corfu in one-step of 1,100 miles, including 24 hours of force 10 between Sardinia and Sicily – cruised the Ionian, Saronic Gulf and Cyclades over several years, and Sardinia for the last two years.
She is not a racer – but a fabulous cruiser who can turn a real pace when you want her to. Incredibly comfortable in rough seas, serene and solid thanks to her long keel design, with well-protected cockpit. Whilst she is happy in a marina, her design comes into its own when you go off the beaten track. Her draft lets her reach the place others cannot, the anchor has never slipped in 15 years, and her layout is superb for having plenty of guests or sailing solo.
With four domestic batteries, a generator and generous water tanks, you can last for weeks without going into a Marina. Particularly useful in the Greek islands. She always gets admiring comments wherever we go. She once caught the eye of the concert pianist Philip Ashkenazy who invited us onto his yacht (complete with grand piano) after he had come over to check her out. She has been well maintained throughout my ownership but COVID put a
