Broker’s Comments

The J/109 is a staple of the 35ft cruiser / racer bracket and quite possibly the most numerate and successful 35ft one design yachts ever designed and built. A large number of these yachts have been built, either in Europe by J Composites or in the USA by TPI. The class attracts a healthy number of yachts to fleet racing at regattas on the South Coast of the UK and elsewhere and have easily gained critical mass due to the simplicity of the layouts, good performance and close racing in one design and also proving to be rather competitive inshore and offshore and the fast growing double handed genre. They are very straightforward to sail, with the Asymmetric setup and simple systems meant that they are very popular with families. Perfect for offshore sailing, family holidays, short-handed racing and friendly regatta racing.

BOO is a very well specified example of the J/109. She has been well and professionally maintained by Berthon in her current ownership and is a very clean and tidy yacht.

For racing, she has an enviable record and strong provenance. In her current ownership she has a number of class podiums at Cowes week and also in the Fastnet race 2019 which are the most numerate regattas for the class. She has many racing upgrades, with recent electronics, carbon fibre wheel, Dyneema cascade backstay control, bobstay, tuff luff and excellent sail wardrobe. She does not currently have the inhauling system for jibs that has recently been allowed by the class but this is a very simple and inexpensive addition and offers the next owner the option to fit, or to leave the deck as is with less clutter and use the powerful genoa for cruising.

For cruising, she has the standard harken roller furling, telescopic and detachable boarding ladder for the transom, 240v outlets at the chart table, Webasto heating to all cabins, refrigerator upgrade from the standard cool box, and Autopilot controls both at the helm and companionway and also a spinnaker snuffer for effective shorthanded sailing.
