Broker’s Comments

The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42 DS is designed for those who are passionate about sailing. A boat with a rare, timeless elegance and design.

Built for cruising, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42 DS has all the comfort and equipment you can expect while delivering superior sailing performance.

Once on board, you will find a large cockpit with plenty of space for seven people around the practical folding teak table, an easily accessible integrated bathing platform with bathing ladder and shower. The cockpit is protected by a sprayhood with bimini/cockpit tent – for sunny as well as cool and rainy days.

This boat is easy to sail. It is equipped with a roller mast and roller genoa and all lines are operated from the cockpit with the help of one of the electric winches. “Parking” the boat is also easy thanks to bow thruster, a 54hp Yanmar engine, a two-speed Gori propeller and electric anchor winches in both fore and aft.

The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42 DS offers a very bright and pleasant layout. At the companionway, there is a navigation area and galley. Aft there is a large owner´s cabin with a wide double berth and adjacent toilet with shower. In the saloon, there are two sofa groups. If necessary, the larger sofa can be easily adapted to a double berth and the smaller sofa to a single berth. Forward is a spacious guest cabin with double berth and toilet with shower.

Owner’s Comments

We bought our S/Y AUGUSTA IV in Trosa, our hometown, July 2020. To live our dream of sailing to the Caribbean. The boat was very well equipped and meticulously maintained by the two previous owners.

In the summer of 2020, we sailed in the Stockholm archipelago, and to Gotland, to learn the boat.

Before the launch in the summer of 2021, we updated the boat by, among other things, installing a completely new watermaker, dinghy and solar panels – to be self-sufficient during our long-distance sailing. We also installed a complete set of safety equipment, for an Atlantic crossing, containing a brand new 6-person life raft, mob-pole, rescue-sling and EPIRB. We also had a DITEC treatment of the hull performed to protect for two years with the Florida climate. To be completely independent and not have to use guest harbors, we bought a brand new Suzumar inflatable boat with an outboard engine that has been fantastic for us.

From Marstrand we headed for Inverness in Scotland to make the Caledonia Canal. On the other side of the canal, the trip continued south via the coastline of France and Portugal, we later reached Madeira and Port Santos. From Madeira, we then set course for Lanzarote and the other Canary Islands. ARC 2021 started on November 21st, together with about 200 other boats. The ARC has high safety requirements, which is why we chose to sail during their event. To really secure our passage, we had a rig inspection carried out by a professional rigger, and did an engine service, according to Yanmar’s instructions. The rig was completely without remarks and the engine was already in top condition.

The start from Las Palmas was sailed in very light winds that lasted for about two days before stronger gusts of wind took over. We also experienced an attack by pirates that we motored from, just south of Gran Canaria. Fortunately, everything went well but also made us sharpen the guard off the coast of Africa. During the Atlantic crossing, we chose to save both boat and crew, 5 people, by sailing with reefed sails as much as possible and not to use gennakers except in extremely light winds. In this case, only for two days.

Three weeks after the start in Las Palmas, we arrived at Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia, which was welcome.

Once in the Caribbean, we spent about five months exploring the archipelago, everything from the Grenadines in the south to the British Virgin Islands in the north. Some of the highlights for us were the Tobago Keys in the Grenadines, Dominica, parts of Guadeloupe and Antigua.
