When first stepping on-board Ker 63, DARK HORSE OF ENGLAND I was struck by the simplicity of the design. Clean and open decks, functional cockpit with powered winches and lines lead out of harm’s way make her a brilliant yacht to sail shorthanded AND a safe family yacht or even charter yacht providing a safe yet comfortable cockpit.
Her cavernous lazarette has ample space for a large dinghy, in this case a Williams tender. To maximise the space, not one but two stern thrusters are fitted, to avoid cluttering the centreline and providing a large amount of power, in conjunction with throttle and the bowthruster to position the yacht with exacting precision very simply and by one person.
In conjunction with the large lazarette, the bathing platform is very adequate, and in company with the hydraulically operated passarelle and swimming ladder opens up access to the water for tenders and toys.
Above the cockpit, a large and substantial bimini provides shade, with clear and removable sides giving many options for enclosure in inclement conditions and an extra room in the evenings.
The large carbon rig provides plenty of power and with the harken switch track keeps the bulk of the mainsail manageable, and the wide carbon fibre park avenue boom holds it all in place. A decent sail wardrobe, refreshed and lightly used since will keep you going when all others are motoring.
Descending into the interior the same philosophy continues, with a large and comfortable open plan saloon, and galley connecting the yacht and with enormous storage capacity.
Five cabins, including a comfortable crew cabin in the bow give many options for family living, and for bluewater sailing the bunk cabin can easily be used as extra storage.
She is an exceptional yacht with excellent design features and superb performance.
European VAT paid and ready to go for the next owner.
