Broker’s Comments

SPIRIT OF OYSTERHAVEN is a contemporary classic yacht, with unmistakable Parker lines, built just beautifully in the UK in 1972. Through her life, she has excelled in a variety of roles – as a long distance cruising yacht, sail training yacht and sailing in classic regattas. Very easy on the eye, her split rig makes her manageable for her size and she has a versatile interior for spending long periods aboard.

Maintained and updated through life – she has enormous potential for her new owner to use her for a variety of purposes, safe in the knowledge that she is a thoroughly well proven yacht that will provide a safe and comfortable platform for whatever cruising programme they have.

Quite unique. Yachts like this do not come to the market every day.

Owner’s Comments

It is no exaggeration to say that SPIRIT OF OYSTERHAVEN has provided both me and my family with our most memorable sailing experiences over the past 22 years. With more than 35,000 miles sailed including six Atlantic crossing and numerous trips from Ireland to Spain and Portugal across Biscay, she has proven herself to be safe, reliable and comfortable in many challenging situations.

There are two aspects to SPIRIT that I particularly love. Firstly her powerful turn of speed when she gets in the groove, close reaching at 9 knots with the rig perfectly balanced with no need to touch the wheel. The other is the sensation of pride on entering an anchorage or marina, where heads are turned and comments passed in admiration of her classic appearance and S&S lines.

What I really value about sailing SPIRIT is the flexibility that her schooner rig allows. She is as easily sailed short-handed as with a full complement of trainees. With her two masts that would each suit a forty footer, she is easy to sail with only one or two other crew members, and while sailing with trainees the dual rig provides plenty of opportunity for everyone to be engaged.

During this period, I have sailed her in a variety of roles, from private cruising to family charter to corporate hospitality and more recently as Ireland’s de facto National Sail Training vessel. The highlights for me have definitely been in sailing at three Antigua Classic Regattas, and in winning the prestigious award from Sail Training International for Best Vessel Operator in 2016.

SPIRIT is a vessel with great character and charm. After 22 years of owning, restoring and operating this stunning classic 70 ft schooner, I have reluctantly decided that my time has come to pass the helm to a new owner.

Former Skipper’s Comments:

We enjoyed reading about this beautiful yacht. We had a long history with her after her transfer from her original owner around 1983. We sailed her from Antibes back to the UK, refitted her in Woodbridge UK, and then operated her in the Eastern Med and Caribbean for several years, making several Atlantic crossings. She is a great yacht, practical, reliable, extremely seaworthy, quite elegant and super strong and tough. We had some wonderful times aboard her in the general charter market…
