Broker’s Comments

Nauticat have traditionally lead the way with pilothouse yachts. The build quality throughout is superb – the internal cabinetry being of particular note. Wrapped up in an S&S designed hull, they are also very capable cruising yachts that deliver rewarding performance. PILGRIM OF ARDFERN is a particularly good example. Coming from a good home, she has benefitted from a significant program of upgrade in recent years:

  • New topside paint 2017.
  • Recent batteries engine and domestic.
  • New charger, inverter and alternator 2016.
  • Upholstery and mattresses.
  • Recent standing rigging and sails.
  • Canvas work 2015.

Owner’s Comments

We acquired PILGRIM after searching for a Nauticat 42 for quite some time. We updated/ refitted her very thoroughly between 2015 and 2016. We sail the West coast of Scotland, and wanted a boat with good tanks, good storage and better than good sea keeping. PILGRIM OF ARDFERN has more than lived up to our hopes – she is stable, predictable and with a good motion even in very rough seas – the S&S hull and Nauticat’s build quality result in a boat where safety, comfort and autonomy are outstanding. Even in rough and difficult sea states she steers reliably and takes everything with a reassuring lack of effort! The new self-tacking staysail has worked very well working lochs and longer passages upwind for a two-person crew. Similarly she is very comfortable when at anchor – we have dealt with many gales at sea and anchor – and had a good night’s sleep. The storage is very generous throughout the boat – from forepeak to lazarette, and every cabin in between. It is only age/mobility that means a smaller power craft for us – of many boats over the years, PILGRIM OF ARDFERN stands out as the best boat we have ever owned and used. The skipper who delivered her (Western Approaches and Irish Sea in December) called her a remarkable craft and we have found ourselves agreeing without qualification.
