The Frers 46 MKII is a particularly well regarded Swan, an iconic yacht of that era she marked quite a step forward from her earlier MKI sister ship. This particular example has obviously been well loved throughout her life. Thoroughbred performance cruiser and very much a sailor’s yacht.
Formerly named ‘The Big Easy’ she was built in 1994 with hull number 46-103; she was based in Flensburg and sailed by the Weideman in regattas and cruising until 2000.
We have owned ‘SAVITRI’ since March 2001.We sailed her from Flensburg (Germany) down to Ijsselmeer (Netherland) in late April 2001 and then to La Rochelle in July 2001 with my two sons.
‘SAVITRI’ served mainly as comfortable cruising family yacht.
We navigated every year, since then with my wife, sons, grandsons (born in 2001) until 2014, mainly during summer holidays along the French coast from La Rochelle to South Brittany.
Since 2015, the family crew having decided to stop navigating, we did continue my wife and I to navigate with friends members of the Yacht Club Classique (www.yachtclubclassique.com) participating in different occasions in the YCC‘s activities like the Brest 2016 event, where we served as jury boat during the classic yacht regatta Brest – La Rochelle, also serving as safety boat during the tour de l’Ile de Ré etc… All our YCC‘s friends have unanimously been admirative of her performance and comfort at sea!
We enjoyed sailing ‘SAVITRI’ for her comfort, robustness, ability to sail up wind, her stability, and also her ability to maneuver even in crowed harbors.
On board, even in strong wind conditions, we always felt very confident as she remain quite easy to steer; her stability is impressive with her 2.7 m keel.
She certainly is the best yacht we owned since we started our family cruising in the late 70’s and we shall deeply regret her; but aging and limited crew indicates us that time has come to look for a yacht than can be handled safely by a 75 year old couple.
