Broker’s Comments

Nautor Swan 651-004 was delivered new from Nautor in 1983. She was a highly customized version of the Nautor Swan 651-model built for a very experienced German owner who had multiple Swans previously (including an S&S 65). Her first name was JUTTA IV.

Nautor Swan 651 ICHIBAN was conceived as a fast-cruising yacht. To allow for the best performance, but also access to shallower harbours and anchorages, she was built with a lifting keel. She has a powerful sloop rig but for ease of handling she has powered sheet winches and Reckmann hydraulic furling for genoa and mainsail, operated from the helm position. Other special features include an extended aft deck with extra lazarette stowage, second aft entrance from aft cockpit to the aft cabin (which has two single beds), enclosed galley, custom style interior, saloon with U shape seating area to port and two armchairs to starboard. Equipment includes, bow-thruster, generator, water-maker, complete electronics and sailing gear.

The vessel benefitted from a complete overhaul in 1991. That included a new teak deck that was at the time 25mm thick and laid using epoxy without screws. She remained in her original family ownership until November 1997, during which time she was lightly used (mostly Med. sailing and never any Atlantic crossing), she never chartered, and was professionally maintained. She was then sold to Norway and saw light summer use in the Baltic Sea area for several seasons.

In 1999, she was bought by the current Swedish owners. They made many improvements and brought her up to the requirements of the Swedish Maritime Regulations for charter yachts carrying up to 12 guests. Nautor Swan 651 ICHIBAN has been used for charter and operated by her husband-and-wife owners. But as with the first owners, they never crossed any ocean and have sailed her exclusively in brackish water in the Baltic area during summers and stored and maintained her in the wintertime. Wear and tear has been minimal, but many upgrades and further works have continued to be carried out – including replacing the engine, the gen set, the chargers and inverters, pumps, toilets and instruments. The glued down teak deck from 1991 is in good order and the caulking 100% ok. Topsides, cockpit, coaming areas, the mast and the boom were all painted in Awlgrip (“snow white”). The underwater hull had a complete “strip-down” in 2016 and painted with several layers of epoxy before new antifouling was made.

Nautor Swan 651 ICHIBAN has a new Nº 2 Genoa (from summer 2021), the Spectra North mainsail from 2016 looks almost new, and she has a good Nº 1 Genoa, a Gennaker and a Spinnaker plus other sails.

VAT is not included in the asking price as she is owned through a tax registered company. VAT will have to be accounted for a sale as applicable depending on the circumstances of the buyer and new ownership.

Owner’s Comments

We bought Nautor Swan 651 ICHIBAN in 1999 with an intention to sail her in Scandinavian waters doing very high-class charter. Our first goal was to have her registered as a charter yacht without cutting corners and that “cost” us some investments both in material but also in hours. We achieved our goal, and since then she is the only charter yacht her size operating in the Baltic allowed to operate outside the archipelago with paying guests on-board. Nautor Swan 651 ICHIBAN has sailed in Scandinavian water since we bought her.

The second goal was to have her, despite her age, look “new”. That made us repaint her totally with AWL-grip, cockpits, topsides, mast, life rafts etc., which made her look fantastic. We have also made a lot of efforts to keep her tidy and beautiful on deck, for example keeping all ropes white (washed in chlorine once a year) while fender ropes and mooring ropes are all black. The teak deck is in amazing condition.

A third goal when searching for a yacht was to find a yacht suitable for sailing in shallow waters and tricky navigation. Nautor Swan 651 ICHIBAN is a fantastic yacht when it comes to handle her in shallow waters due to her centreboard arrangement and the hydraulic handling of the sail. From cruising with full set of sail in ten knots you can easily in a couple of minutes be motoring and ready to drop the anchor in a shallow bay with her only 2,3 meters draft.

The fourth goal was to be able to handle her with only two crew, a skipper and a chef/deckhand, which according to the government’s rules is the minimum number of crew on-board a commercial charter yacht. This was accomplished by among other things remaking the cockpit area so that the person at the helm can handle almost everything from the position behind the wheel. There was extra effort put into finding an autopilot which could handle the yacht in almost any weather. VHF is handled from different positions. All the pushbuttons for the handling of sails and other equipment are centralised by the wheel.

The fifth goal was to carry food supplies on-board to be able to serve amazing dishes from the galley in any weather and to be able to bunker food for longer trips. To be able to accomplish this the galley was rebuilt with a completely new working surface, special made in Corian, new stove etc. The fridge and freezer systems were replaced with new equipment to be able to carry a big amount of food supply, produce ice for the drinks etc. The systems are completely redundant with one compressor run by 230 Voltage and the other one by the main engine, so that if one of them has a leakage or another error the other one is not affected at all.

The sixth goal was to be able to sail her in hard weather, in small harbours, or rough sea without risk to the safety of the guests or the crew. To make Nautor Swan 651 ICHIBAN easy to handle the main engine was changed to one with double amount of hp, and the next step was to install a 20hp electric bow thruster. The propeller is a three blade Max Prop which gives great performance and good control in reverse.

The seventh goal was to give the guests on-board a perfect experience, which was accomplished by certain easy to handle installations. Vacuum toilets with just a pedal to push when flushing, a heating system adjustable in each cabin, unlimited hot water for showers etc. We believe that these installations have made some of our guests to become repeatable customers.

All goals reached if not surpassed! Nautor Swan 651 ICHIBAN is surely one of the very best examples of her class in the world.

A buyer may also acquire the charter business, website and if they wish takeover the shares in the owning company.
