PILGRIM is a proper little ship that these owners have enjoyed immensely. She has taken them to Scotland, the Baltic and up to South East Norway. She consumes less than 1 litre per nautical mile at 7 knots. She has the potential of up to 17 knots if you need to make a landfall or to dodge weather.
Nordic Tugs are well known in the USA, where they are hand built and come with a 10-year Gold Standard hull warranty.
PILGRIM is practical externally with her safe side decks, easy clean exterior and spacious cockpit. She is crammed full of storage and her interior provides a fantastic living saloon with galley and a super wheelhouse with side access port and starboard. She has two very comfortable sleeping cabins forward.
In this ownership, she has been beautifully maintained and updated for comfortable and long legged cruising and is ready for her new owner and new adventures.
PILGRIM has taken us some 7000 plus miles to Stornaway and the Hebrides. Across the North Sea and through the Eider river to the Baltic. We have cruised extensively in Denmark, West Sweden, SE Norway and the North German coast. She wintered in a heated shed in Neustadt. We returned via German and Dutch Canals.
She will cruise all day at 14/15 knots but we do not do that very often – preferring to go at a quiet comfortable and very economical 8 knots. Her Cummins computer controlled engine is just as happy at low revs as at fast. Passage making at eight knots – we did 2100 nm to Stornaway and back and used 2050Lt of fuel. In the Dutch canals, at the legal 6 knots, we were using just 3/4Lt per nm.
She is very strongly built and the Nordic Tugs are very much respected, and much more expensive, in America. A friend who is a very well-known world-wide sailor now cruises his Tug with his wife from Vancouver to Alaska every year. It was on their recommendation we bought PILGRIM.
We did find the steps leading back from the bows caused much slapping noise when at anchor for the night in the fore cabin. We had them modified as per the Nordic Tug photos and this has made a huge improvement. I have photos of what we did.
In 2019, we found the propeller was whining at certain revs and we had it removed and retuned by an expert in Southampton. It is now quiet. At the same time we had the shaft taken out and new cutlass bearings put in and a new PSS commercial grade shaft seal put in. She is ready to go for many, many miles. She was copper coated in 2016.
She is all in a ready state for our proposed cruise to the West of Scotland again this year. She is for sale only because of a last minute change of plan due to a family decision to combine and purchase a large boat for us all to go be able to go away together.
I will be happy to go over her in full detail with a new owner.
