Broker’s Comments

ILITHYIA is #7 of this great series of no nonsense blue water cruising yachts from Holman & Pye and Oyster. They are capable of crossing oceans without effort and are wondering for family cruising and also lend themselves to a charter programme as you wish.

ILITHYIA is construction of single skin GRP with balsa cored topsides which provides fantastic panel rigidity and has good insulation properties. Her rudder is fully protected by a skeg giving lots of security to her crew when crossing oceans. She draws a moderate 9’ so is able to anchor closer in than many other yachts of her size.

The automated rig makes it possible to handle her easily, yet with 10 berths with en-suites she has the potential to have crew aboard should this be your preference.

Below she has a traditional and iconic teak interior with teak and holly soleboards and light floods into the main saloon via her saloon windows.

ILITHYIA has been with her current owners for nearly a decade and she is an important member of the family and has been used extensively privately as well as having a charter programme. She is fully equipped for warm and colder waters with reverse cycle air conditioning, a recent Onan genset, batteries and chargers and new galley equipment. Very recent has been a full rig check with re-heading of the rod so she is ready for new adventure.

Owner’s Comments

We bought ILITHYIA for our family of six at a time when our children were young and could travel with us on holidays. We also have many friends interested in sailing and in the Island lifestyle, who have loved chartering with us over the years. Eleven years on our children are now young adults and the amount of time that they have to vacation with their parents is now much reduced. So life is moving on for us and our ILITHYIA can no longer be used by us in the same way, hence our decision to sell.

She is a fantastic yacht for destination cruising. We have sailed her throughout the entire Eastern Caribbean, Croatia, Amalfi, the French Riviera, Greece and Sardinia. Her 5 cabins allow for the privacy and comfort of many guests at one time, room for a crew/cook, and her large cockpit makes for easy conversations for up to 10 people. Entertaining aboard is effortless. The aft swimming platform makes for simple access for swimming and for shore trips aboard a 14′ RIB. The large saloon provides plenty of space for dining and entertaining when the elements don’t cooperate.

For offshore passages the layout, design and equipment aboard make for passages that novices can easily enjoy. Her hull allows for surefooted work through a seaway, and her sailing setup allows for single handed sailing on watch. Water making capacity allows for daily hot showers, a true luxury on bluewater. Her ample food storage translates to a wide variety of meals for weeks on end. Large house capacity batteries provide power for every need. Large amounts of lazarette storage mean safe and efficient storage of a wide variety of spares, equipment and water toys. Aesthetically, they don’t build Oysters like this anymore. Many who have sailed the new hull designs report that the motion in seas is harder and more punishing. The cabinetry is solid wood and not veneer so maintenance is simplified. For long passages, we often have crew asking us to sail with ILITHYIA knowing that the experience is worth the time.

We bought an Oyster 68 because of the way we knew she was constructed and her design priorities. We knew that her hull and rig would age without diminishing the value of maintained and renewed systems placed in her. She is the 7th of her design to be built so we knew that the kinks of her design were likely worked out. We inspected perhaps 12 other Oysters of her size and class, from the first one built to the newer designs, and found her to be the pick of the litter.

Most important upgrades and work carried out of late are a new generator, new mainsail, Level C rig inspection and repairs and new refrigeration system.
