Vitters BD 80 BLISS II was conceived by and built for an experienced yachtsman. His brief was to have a comfortable family yacht, that was fast, easy to handle and comparatively easy to maintain without permanent crew. The family enjoy their privacy when sailing and did not wish to have crew always with them.
Another important requirement was for a large, comfortable well protected cockpit, suitable for warm weather sailing but also with protection for when the weather turned. Inside the yacht had to be bright, light (colour and weight!) and have a spacious feel.
With the wish for performance and yet accessibility to harbours and anchorages – BLISS II has a lifting keel. Many other ideas have been incorporated for safe and easy family life aboard – good stern access to the water or dinghy with the fold down platform, self-tacking jib, boom furling main, hydraulic powered systems, air conditioning and heating, crane to lift dinghy, … and more.
BLISS II is registered in Malta.
My building of BLISS II was based on the idea of having a comfortable and powerful sailboat to be sailed by me and my family or friends. A major topic was to create also a nice bright and modern interior with an exceptional view from the inside when sitting on the lounge couches. With the magic trims it is possible to tack and gybe single handed without touching a rope. A powerful bow and stern thruster make manoeuvring in narrow harbours a breeze. The very high righting moment makes her extremely comfortable to sail and stable at anchor as well. Of course, you can go to “gin and tonic” regattas with crew as well – have fun and do well!
She is around 40 tons in total where approx. 10 tons is the ballast bulb keel and approx. 1 ton is the keel.
