The Wauquiez Pilot Saloon 43 is built for bluewater sailing and ROBIN HOOD is no exception, with an impressive list of equipment and upgrades. On deck you will find a large, safe cockpit, in boom furling, electric genoa furler and self-tacking jib, making her easy to sail shorthanded. Down below she offers a clever and versatile interior layout with a raised seating area in the saloon and panoramic views, inside navigation station and a spectacular owner’s cabin in the stern, plus two further cabins forward.
These yachts have a following amongst the bluewater fraternity and it’s easy to see why. ROBIN HOOD has been lovingly cared for during her current ownership and she is now ready for her next sailing adventures.
I have owned ROBIN HOOD since 2013 and have sailed her mainly in the UK, France and the Med since then. I chose her in part because of the strong reputation of the boat builder Henri Wauquiez and the designer Ed Dubois, together with the yacht’s credentials as a bluewater cruiser.
I like the line of the yacht. To me she looks good. When she was launched, she set a style that many have followed. In particular, I like the pilot saloon layout which gives a very light saloon with a fantastic view and where you can easily see out when sitting at either the chart table or the dining table.
Also, I was very much attracted by the sail configuration which has suited the short-handed sailing I have typically done. All the sheets, the main halyard and the furling line for the self-tacking jib come back to the cockpit. The electric winch for the main sail and the electric furler for the 140% genoa makes sail handling easier. Plus, the in-boom main sail furling system allows for a fully battened mainsail and easy reefing. When you need to motor, the 75hp Yamaha engine makes good headway, even against a strong tidal current. One other feature worthy of note is the enormous double bed in the master cabin, with a great ensuite heads including a good-sized separate shower. Overall, she is a lot of boat (and a lot of fun) for just 43 foot.
