The Superb Axopar 37 XC Cross Cabin, SISU – now on film…
February 28th, 2023
Unless you have been inhabiting a parallel yachting universe, you cannot as a boater over the past few years have missed the insane rise to power of the Axopar brand of walk-around cruiser.
Armed with an outboard engine (or two), a well-protected ring-deck, striking stem arrow-heading an air-step hull, and a huge variety of smart options, the Finnish company has catapulted their product into near-every harbour along the UK’s South Coast. With the US market devouring outboard-powered sports-cruisers, Mediterranean and Scandinavian buyers succumbing to the rugged practicalities of these craft, world domination has been beckoning for some while, yet the boats just get better and better.
Our case study here is one such Axopar. In fact the Axopar 37 XC (or Cross Cabin should you prefer), and we are lucky enough to be marketing the most recent example to the market (from 2021) – named “SISU” – ((trans:- “Sisu” is extraordinary determination in the face of extreme adversity, and courage that is presented typically in situations where success is unlikely. It expresses itself in taking action against the odds, and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity; in other words, deciding on a course of action, and then adhering to it even if repeated failures ensue.))
Check out SISU’s walk-around video here:
The XC has moved on from the original 37, whilst maintaining the same sharp reverse entry bow for cleaving, the same two pronounced chines to deflect any spray downwards, and the same twin hulls steps to aerate the hull and cushion the ride. Axopar’s design partners Aivan have gently tweaked the hull lines for further optimise fuel efficiency and range, yet the most noticeable improvement focuses around the forward cabin area – providing a pair of ram-assisted, gull-wing side doors, which pierce the glazed cabin roof and provide outstanding access from the side decks.
The increased light and practical ventilation that the features provide is very smart, and shows that Axopar’s designers react well to feedback and understand that these boats make excellent platforms for exploring, and need to swallow the loads that such adventures involve. Thus SISU also has useful loading racks in smart, durable Black Finish fitted to her roof (straddling that enormous powered cabin roof), handy aft side deck lockers, outboard frame to protect those Mercury 300HP V8s, and a full integrated Simrad navigational suite for ease of route-planning. Add the selected Brabus Line upgrades, Comfort Package and Aft Cabin options, and you have a very highly-specified and capable four-berth cruiser.
A welcome result of the gull-wing format is the hugely improved forward heads/shower layout. Not only do the neat mouldings form a companionway between the helm and forward cabin, but they conceal a light, easily-cleaned and private area, with access from either end, and intelligent solutions to the shower and heads footprints.
So there you go. If you are looking for an all-weather, sea-sure, adaptable and complete four berth/twin cabin sports-boat, that will easily maintain a 40 knot cruise, then SISU will fit the bill. She is beautifully presented, with her diligent owner’s commissioning a dry survey when she was ashore for servicing in late 2022, and retains the balance of warranties from new.
