The name Nautor’s Swan is synonymous with fast cruising vessels of the highest quality and Nautor Swan 46, MASQUERADE fulfils this description completely. Her German Frers designed hull is fast, elegant and solidly constructed, equally at home island hopping in the Med or competing in offshore racing.
Typical of Nautor’s Swan, MASQUERADE fiberglass hull and deck are beautifully finished. She benefits from new teak decking in 2015 and Coppercoat to the hull refreshed in 2023. As with any Swan, there is a wide selection of sails to play with on racing days while the 130% furling genoa is perfect for cruising. Aft she has a double cockpit configuration, which provides a safe space for lots of guests or a racing crew with good protection in the forward cockpit and access to the cabin.
The interior woodwork is in excellent condition and she has plenty of accommodation. Aft is a very nice master stateroom with access to the en-suite with electric head. Moving forward on the port side is the walk-through galley, with plenty of space for cooking. The saloon offers two sofas with a centreline-folding table, which comfortably accommodates 6-8 people. To port there is an outboard pilot berth. At the bow there are forward bunks plus a further two bunks on the starboard with access to the forward heads. Overall, her layout is well conceived for both serious offshore sailing, entertaining and living aboard – her interior has a spacious feel, but a good handhold is never too far away!
MASQUERADE has been well cared for by the current owner for over 20 years and been enjoyed as a family yacht and serious racing. With many updates over the years, she is now ready for her new owners.
I have owned Masquerade for 20 years. Prior to purchasing Masquerade (previously named Crackerjack) in 2003. I had sailed a variety of Swan yachts which convinced me that the Swan 46 Mk II was the one to buy. It is a quantum leap in very spacious and comfortable interior accommodation from the Swan 44, with an owner’s cabin with headroom, a double bunk and ensuite heads, but still manageable with 2 or 3 onboard.
Masquerade is perfectly balanced and performs superbly to windward at 6-7 knots in 12-15 knots windspeed. In rough weather she is very much a boat that looks after the crew rather than a boat that demands more of the crew. Reaching downwind she cruises at 8-9 knots.
We have sailed her in the UK, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic for two Caribbean seasons. Masquerade is a great family boat and has brought so much enjoyment into our family’s lives. We will be sorry to see her go but the owner’s advancing age is the only reason she is for sale.
