Sailing Yacht Broker Harry Lightfoot’s love for sailing started from an early age, on the River Alde in Suffolk, where he first learnt to sail and race Oppies and worked his way up to RS400s. From here, his enjoyment for spending time out on the water grew to sailing yachts in Suffolk and later to racing in Vancouver and a career in yacht brokerage.
He writes: “In 2016 my now wife and I moved to Vancouver, Canada. We had been working in London for 5 years but we decided to have a change of scenery and head to the only place you can sail by day and ski at night – perfect! While in Vancouver I started my career in yacht brokerage, selling North American and European brands for both power and sailing yachts. Dealing with a vast variety of boats taught me so much about yacht sales within North America and I gained invaluable knowledge in the world of yacht brokerage.
Fast forward three years we moved home to get married, get our Jack Russell ‘Banzo’ and start our family in the New Forest. I moved back with a job working with the Discovery Shipyard as New Sales & Brokerage Sales Manager. Over the next three years I lived and breathed Discoverys & Southerlys and gained a deep understanding of the management of new yacht sales. As well as managing new sales for the company I expanded the brokerage arm of the business, specialising in Southerly Yachts which I successfully marketed and sold internationally.
My time at the Discovery Shipyard was cut short unexpectedly for reasons beyond my control but Berthon International is the natural next role for me. It’s wonderful to be working with such a passionate team and a wonderful opportunity to move the Southerly & Discovery Brokerage forward with such a reputable company.
Living close to the New Forest and the Solent allows us to enjoy the many outdoor pursuits we both have always loved from walking Banzo, to playing for a New Forest cricket club and sailing the Solent. Indeed you will find me most Thursday evenings racing in the Solent and at weekends taking part in racing series around the South Coast. As our families live in Aldeburgh, Suffolk we still spend many weekends and holidays there, giving the grandparents a chance to look after our young son Arthur!”
