MOJITO is a recent Hanse 505 and is in immaculate condition.
Hanse 505s are known for their elegant hull with a long waterline, performance-centred sail plan and comfortable, safe cockpit area. They are great cruising yachts and provide a new level of joy in sailing.
MOJITO comes with almost all the possible options you could choose, and has been maintained to a high standard. She is UK VAT paid.
We bought MOJITO in July 2021, and first sailed her all around the south of England, out to the Scilly Isles. Then we sailed her across the Bay of Biscay, down the coasts of Spain and Portugal, and to the Canary Islands starting in June 2023. We then did the ARC from Gran Canaria to St Lucia, then up through the Caribbean islands to do the ARC Europe from St Maarten via Bermuda. Next, we spent a couple of months in the Azores before sailing back to the UK via Spain in September 2024. Then in November 2024 we sailed back down to Lisbon for the winter and then on to Canary Island for some winter sun in February. After which we went to Morocco and on to the Balearics.
When we chose MOJITO, we were looking for a boat that really felt spacious and light on the inside and could take a family of 5 easily. To me, the Hanse 505 has the best layout and feels the most spacious of any 50ft, which makes for very comfortable long-term living on the boat.
We chose this Hanse 505 as she was in excellent condition, which we have maintained, and it was already a very well specified boat, which we have then improved on. In addition, the way the lines are run, with the self-tacking, and in-mast furling it is very easy to sail shorthanded or even single handed. And mooring with the sail drive, large rudder, feathering prop and bow and stern thrusters for a boat this big is very comfortable. I have moored her in 25-30kn of wind inside the marina in the Canary Islands quite happily.
We truly love the space and the light on MOJITO, and how comfortable she is to live on. It is very enjoyable to have people stay on board because there is plenty of open space below and on deck. Light wind sailing in 12kn and below is excellent, with 8-10kn of wind we can often sail 7-8kn on a beam or close reach.
We have done many upgrades to MOJITO since buying her, including:
We have very much enjoyed sailing MOJITO in our late 20s, but we are now in our 30s and plan to return to the UK to settle down for family life and more stable work. We hope and plan very much to return to a boat in 15-20 years’ time.
