The Bowman 40 has long held an enviable reputation as one of Britain’s finest bluewater cruising yachts, robustly built, beautifully finished, and sought after by serious offshore sailors who understand that quality rarely comes like this. As a MK2 variant, Maud benefits from the improved forward and aft cabin layout, offering comfortable accommodation for two couples, with the kind of space and privacy that makes extended passages a pleasure rather than a compromise.

Maud is a standout example that has been very well cared for by the current owners. She was selected from half a dozen examples for her specific attributes, a fully battened mainsail, mast steps, heavy-duty rigging tangs, and oversized primary winches. She has since been comprehensively updated and prepared for bluewater cruising. All standing rigging was replaced in December 2025, the mast was unstepped and fully inspected at the same time, and the Volvo MD22L engine received a new cam belt and full service in April 2026. She really is ready to go.

With her Scheel keel, Hydrovane self-steering, bow thruster, and feathering Maxprop, Maud is as capable as she is comfortable. Below decks, the light teak interior is warm and practical, with generous storage throughout that reflects a boat designed for real passage making rather than marina hopping.

The current owners have maintained three very well-organised binders, each providing a thorough documented history of the boat – one covering ownership, one dedicated to maintenance, and one containing technical data for the yacht.

She is a boat that has clearly been loved, and it shows in every detail.

Owner’s Comments

MAUD is truly ready to go. Sails have been recently laundered, the engine has been recently serviced, and she has been regularly maintained and updated throughout our five years of ownership. From the moment we first saw her, MAUD stood out for her exceptional safety, and we quickly fell in love with the comfort she offers, with grab points and areas to hold all around the boat. She is a wonderful two-couple yacht, with two cabins that make her perfect for time away with friends or family.

What really set MAUD apart when we were buying was the quality of her construction, something we genuinely felt could not be matched by other manufacturers, and ultimately the reason we chose her. She has remained in British waters her whole life, splitting her time between the Solent, west coast of England and Scotland. It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we are now selling her, but we take great comfort in knowing she is going to her next chapter in the best possible condition.
