Broker’s Comments

NORTHERN LIGHT is one of the last, and the most expensive of the very popular Swan 68’s built (hull 68-20). She is unique in being one of only two centre cockpit versions built. Originally built for a well-known German yachtsman, as a fast cruiser racer for the Swan circuit, she features a lighter aramid/vinylester hull laminate, taller 4-spreader carbon mast and Park Avenue boom, hydraulic swim platform, hydraulic powered headsail and winches, and a four-stateroom (plus crew/forepeak cabin) interior layout.

The owner’s cabin aft is extremely spacious, with full headroom throughout. There is some detailing in high gloss clearcoat black carbon, such as the companionway steps and steering wheel.

Berthon sold her to her current and fourth owner in 2016, she had many upgrades and renewals then, such as the extra thick teak deck (2008) and a new engine (2008).

The current full-time captain has been on board since the previous ownership, and has been maintaining the yacht in great shape.

In the current ownership, NORTHERN LIGHT has sailed solely with the owner and his family, did some Atlantic crossings, and had no expense spared. Some important recent works and upgrades included:

• New hull paint – 2026.
• New gearbox – 2024.
• Engine taken out and rebuilt – 2023.
• New generator – 2023.
• New air conditioning – 2023.
• New set of sails by North Sails 3Di – 2023.
• New offshore carbon 4-spreader mast – 2020.

NORTHERN LIGHT is in good condition and priced to sell this season. She is ready for viewing. UK registration. VAT paid (in Malta 2019).

Owner’s Comments

We have owned this wonderful yacht for almost 10 years and have sailed her mostly in Greece, Croatia, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, and the Balearics. We crossed the Atlantic three times to enjoy the Caribbean and the East coast of the USA.

During these 10 years, NORTHERN LIGHT was used solely for fast family cruising, farniente and was never chartered.

I did many upgrades during my ownership, the most significant ones being changing the mainsail and the jib to 3Di by North Sails, and getting a Code 0 from North Sails as well – a real performer for fast cruising in light wind, even upwind.

The generator was recently replaced and is very quiet. The propeller has been upgraded and cruising with the engine when there is no wind is very smooth.
What we value most on NORTHERN LIGHT is its ability to cruise fast, especially upwind and in lighter winds, while being extremely seaworthy. She is always a real pleasure to steer.

We always felt safe on board, even in the rare occasion where we faced bad conditions.

We have launched construction of a new 78ft sailboat, to be delivered this summer and therefore decided to put NORTHERN LIGHT on sale. It will be a heart breaker to leave this yacht with so much great memories onboard…
