Built in 2005, Nautor Swan 53, GAIA was hull number 2 of the short run of Swan 53/2’s. 20 of these yachts were built by Nautor between 2005 – 2009. This iteration of the Swan range proved very potent on the racecourse, GAIA’s sister ships winning the gold medal at the prestigious Rolex Swan Cup, Voiles de St Tropez and many others, both inshore and offshore.
You can watch GAIA’s walkthrough video here:
GAIA is currently in her third ownership from new. In her current ownership, she has travelled well, to the Caribbean and Mediterranean, and although has competed, on a more Corinthian basis.
GAIA underwent a large refit in 2023, the full details of which are below and also in her specification. GAIA offers her next owner low running costs for the foreseeable future, as many areas of the yacht have been refitted and upgraded in her 2023 refit.
The Nautor Swan 53/2 is one of the first of a new approach to comfort above deck. The aft owners cabin was moved forward, which enabled the removal of the bridge deck and therefore one central cockpit, which works very well ergonomically for both cruising and racing.
A USP of GAIA is her huge owners cabin, spanning the full width of the yacht forward of the mast. The double berth on the port side is comfortable, and the addition of a desk on the centreline gives opportunity to work from the yacht.
The sofa on the starboard side extends to a sea berth, and extends the cabin to a private space. Forward into the full width heads with a clever integrated rain shower and plenty of ventilation and storage.
In the bow is the skipper’s cabin, with access into the forward heads, and to the foredeck through the large glazed hatch. Two pipecots and a sink unit give a comfortable extra space for crew.
The main saloon is comfortable and open plan to the galley on the starboard side. Swan enthusiasts will be familiar with the fuse board opposite the galley, and a large chart table with extra chart space above the additional fridge unit.
Her twin aft cabins are comfortable, with plenty of storage and new mattresses.
On deck, the teak has been replaced on the coachroof and cockpit, and refreshed on the side decks. She has a nice lounging area on the coachroof that can be shaded by the many bimini options and with a very comfortable cockpit.
Her Twin wheels allow easy access to the bathing platform. Both helms have newly fitted B&G chartplotters and offer great visibility forwards. Powered winches help sail manoeuvring, and all is easily accessible from the cockpit.
For shorthanded sailing, GAIA is a breeze with her furling jib and in boom furling mainsail.
GAIA has shipped back from her Caribbean season and now is lying in Valencia for her next owner, close to an International airport.
Berthon have an agent in the area who can show the yacht at short notice, and she is well looked after.
