Broker’s Comments

LYDIA has sweet lines drawn by Chuck Payne and she was built at Rival Bowman Yachts on the South Coast of the UK. She was handcrafted and built with the idea of serious blue water cruising. Her current owner purchased her in 2014, and after a refit at Berthon, set off with her across the Atlantic. The rest of her voyage was the stuff of myth, with a full planet circuit, with many of passages undertaken singlehanded. She has proved herself to be a sea kindly, reliable companion.

The photographs shown of LYDIA in these particulars pre-date her cruise and the work being done to her at the moment. They are intended as a guide and nothing more.

Below we have detailed her cruising programme:

LYDIA’s Voyages:

  • September, sailed from Lymington.
  • ARC+ from Las Palmas to St Lucia. First in class both legs.

  • West Indies.
  • Laid up ashore for hurricane season at Grenada Marine.

  • World ARC St Lucia to Tahiti via Panama, Galapagos, Marquesas.
  • Laid up ashore for European summer at Chantier Naval des Iles, Raiatea.
  • Raitea to Cook Islands, Tonga, New Zealand (single-handed).

  • Opua, Bay of Islands.
  • Laid up ashore for European summer at Norsand boatyard, Whangarei.
  • November, sailed to Bundaberg, Queensland (single-handed).

  • Laid up ashore at Bundaberg Marina for European summer.
  • Re-joined World ARC in September.
  • McKay, Darwin, Lombok, Christmas Island, Cocos Keeling, Mauritius, Reunion, Richards Bay SA.
  • First in class Cocos to Mauritius.

  • Sailed independently to Cape Town, St Helena, Salvador.
  • Re-joined World ARC.
  • Cabadelo, Ile Royale, Grenada, St Lucia.
  • Laid up ashore for hurricane season at Grenada Marine.

  • Grenada to BVI ready for transatlantic home.
  • Then came Covid, boat shipped back to Southampton aboard cargo vessel.
  • Berthon marina.

LYDIA is now back at Berthon for a refit as her owner would like her new owners to enjoy this fantastic blue water cruising yacht as he has done. There is a refit specification which is being worked through now and there is the possibility for a new owner to become involved now and to take over the reins so that LYDIA’s refit can be completed to his specific wish. Work ongoing includes:

  • Isolating and rectifying all deck leaks.
  • Removal of teak ring deck and replacement with Flexi teak.
  • Refit of all deck fittings.
  • Replacement of saloon windows.
  • Repair of damaged interior veneers and bulkhead damage.
  • Revarnishing of interior.
  • Overhaul and refit of both heads compartments.
  • New calorifier and immersion heater.
  • Mechanical and electrical overhaul.
  • Overhaul of all bilge pumping systems.
  • New mainsail and yankee.
