Bowman 50, TALISMAN OF IPSWICH is a strikingly good looking yacht and designed for serious passage making.

Originally based on the Bowman 49, only two Bowman 50s were built by craftsman David Skeene at Moodys Boatyard on the River Hamble. The design was to accommodate extra headroom below, therefore the Bowman 49 mould was altered to 50ft and the result is a well thoughtout bluewater yacht with excellent headroom.

On deck, she has a cutter rig set up with twin carbon poles perfect for when going down wind. In the centre cockpit, she will comfortably seat six or ten at party time and the cockpit seats are long enough to sleep on. From the helm, position there is excellent all round visibility and protection when the full cockpit enclosure is needed in bad weather.

Down below the large saloon has an offset dining table to seat six in comfort. As expected, there is lots of storage and drawers. To starboard is the navigation station with a good-sized chart table.

Just aft of the navigation area is the ‘bosuns cabin’ – single berth with Pullman above, overhead stowage and wet locker. The perfect sleeping spot when on passage.

From the port side of the saloon going aft is the longitudinal galley. Once again, perfect for passage making, with fridge and freezer and Force 10 stove next to the double sink. And of course there is lots of stowage under the worktops and behind the sink. Continuing aft through the galley there is the owner’s cabin, with offset double berth, hanging wardrobe, drawers, stowage lockers and en-suite heads compartment.

Forward of the saloon is an extra storage area with newly installed washing machine. From the lobby to port is the second heads and shower unit. Forward is the second double cabin with hanging locker and good storage.

When purchasing the yacht a few years ago the current owner went through a re-fit to get her up to modern standards before sailing across the Atlantic and back. The result is a classic bluewater yacht with plenty of new equipment that is now turn-key ready for her next sailing adventures.

Bowman 50, TALISMAN OF IPSWICH is a much admired classic yacht from a renowned designer and built to exacting standards. She is extremely comfortable to live aboard and her deep displacement hull makes her very sea kindly. Yet with a good turn of speed, happy to make 8.5kts with a breeze on the beam.

We carried out an extensive refit during 2020/2021 to bring her up to the latest standards. As a husband and wife crew we have just completed an 8000Nm circuit to the Caribbean and back. TALISMAN was always reliable, great to be aboard, safe, secure and great fun to sail.
