Broker’s Comments

As only Cockwells Modern & Classic Boatbuilding can, and lovingly hand-built in Cornwall, IMPULSIVE is a single-minded and one-off Cockwells Custom 33’ Motor Launch. She was built for her present Owner in 2013, and was sketched as modern interpretation of a Naval cutter, whilst being wholly cutting edge in terms of fit-out, equipment and control systems. She was conceived to be completely manageable single-handedly – equally stunning, and very useable as a day cruiser/weekender. She turns heads wherever she goes, and exudes quality.

From afar, her forthright upright and sharp stem stand against the seaway. Her varnished deckhouse gleams, with polished stainless steel frames offsetting off her large picture glazed windows, and a smart Matterhorn White coachroof topping the highly-varnished buttresses aft. There is very comfortable seating in her covered aft cockpit, and two panelled doors open into a gloriously light chamber of a saloon, with beautifully-finished bench seating. There are stout, turned timber columns to support your progress forward to the forward Helm and Navigator’s seats, and her sole boards gleam under layers of gloss varnish. Simply stunning. Venturing forward, her deeply-lustrous interior joinery is hand-crafted using Cornish Chestnut and Black Walnut, and the lines and timbers of her Douglas Fir strip hull reinforcement is openly displayed in the heads and galley sides.

The galley stretches across the yacht forward of the companionway stairs, and is fitted to port with ceramic hob, refrigerator and microwave/grill. The AC and DC switching panel is located on the bulkhead for ease of access, and there is useful stowage for plates, and drawers stowage also. The galley worktops are finished in a hard-wearing, yet attractive, speckled Anthracite Corian, and here is good direct overhead lighting, with accent lighting under the eye-level cupboards. To starboard, there is a further wortop area, with a recessed sink, srainge rack and lockers for stowage both underneath the worktop, and at eye-level also. The cabin sides are trimmed in timber planking, painted out exquisitely in softly-glossed Sayerlack, with a fixed port-light set into the hull planking to both port an starboard. A panelled timber door is formed into the forward transverse bulkhead, and opens outwards to access the separate heads/shower compartment nestled into the bows. The loo is set on a centreline plinth, with a fiddled Anthracite Corian work surface stretching out to the the hull sides, inset with a basin to port and unblilcal shower head and head. The teak grating in the sole conceals the shower drain pump, and the there is excellent natiual light from the opening deck-hatch above and fixed port-lights.

For her power needs under engine, a powerful, yet civilised 260HP 6BY3 Yanmar diesel prime mover lies comfortably under the well-insulated cabin sole, allowing her 6 tonnes dryweight to power along at a comfortable 14 knot cruising speed. With a single shaft drive-train (using a Python drive to supress vibration and shaft noise) under the vast powered engine bay hatch, there is exceptional access to the engine, tanks, strainers, seacocks, fuel tanks, dualled filters and battery cases. For further access forward (and to a very useful transverse stowage space under the floor at the helm) there is a another hinged hatch. She is equipped with a state of the art Tecnautic control system for exceptional close-quarter manoeuvring, with Hover, Hold and Anchor modes to ensure that single-handed operation is just a breeze. This system includes a Remote Helm Module to enable control to be administered (away from the main helm) from anywhere on board within reach of the umbilical control lead; so for anchoring; the foredeck: and for berthing; the aft cockpit.

She is, is all sectors, a truly magical creature. IMPULSIVE is a a highly-accomplished build in terms of concept, finish and engineering, yet champions the ease of electronic piloting aids, whilst retaining the look, feel and unbridled elegance and spirit, of a truly classic motor launch.

Owner’s Comments

IMPULSIVE has very much matched my design brief of having a classic looking boat with good sea-going qualities and great for social entertaining. Supported by advanced technology the boat is ideal for easy short /single handed operation. The Cockwells build quality is outstanding and has withstood the test of time exceptionally well. My next boat will be a Cockwells boat.
