Norway’s heritage in boat building is legendary, and Egil Ranvig’s Hydro-Design has been a long-term proponent of fast, seasure hulls since 1985, rooted in a racing heritage. Cormate launched the Cormate T27 to critical acclaim at the Norwegian Boat Show in 2006, and the razor-sharp 25-degree deep-vee hull has performed reliably ever since, with Norway’s King Harald opting for a T27 when the time came to replace his aging Riva!
With narrow beam, a set of deep spray rails to generate lift for fast response, and a blade of a stem to cleave the oncoming water, this is a hull that looks completely fit for purpose. The T27 has been engined with options to enable a shattering 70-knot top-out, but this 2016-built example has a light, punchy 4.5-litre Mercruiser V6 gasoline block developing 250HP, for a sprightly 38 knots!
Dressed in powder blue livery with sand-colored cockpit upholstery, she is set off by a full teak deck, and is achingly pretty in the flesh. A pair of low-slung, highly polished rails arc effortlessly forward above her side decks. There are some gorgeous Scandinavian touches, with plenty of beautifully executed stainless steel and teak work to dress her up. The helm console is a true driver’s environment, with race throttles, a sports wheel, precise steering, and supportive SuperSport seats for helm and co-pilot. All perched aft of a wrap-around one-piece screen.
Below decks, there is an inevitable compromise to be made for the raked lines of the T27, and the central lobby area feeds forward into the forward berth, where the flush foredeck limits available headroom. But it is all nicely finished with more mahogany trim and quality fittings. This boat is very much about the deck space, ride, and the drive though, so settle into that leather-touch seat, fire up the Merc, and let this hull do its work!
Name to be retained by vendor.
“It’s a delicious-looking boat, the kind that makes ostentation feel facile and silly. As a platform for lunch, or indeed as an object of loveliness to admire in its own right, it’s first rate.”
“Settle into the cosseting helm seat, with those racing throttles in your right hand, and all seems very well sorted indeed. The softness of the ride is also commendable, as are the aggression of the heel and the unfussed composure of the hull.” – Powerboat & RIB
