Discovery 67, TILLY MINT

Broker’s Comments

The Discovery 67 is a proven and well designed and constructed blue water cruising yacht with sweet lines from Ron Holland giving her superb sailing performance and a thoughtful well-conceived interior. TILLY MINT was built for her first owners as a family cruising yacht, and she took them far and in great comfort. In her first ownership she cruised the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, the East coast of the USA and spent several winters in the Caribbean. She was handled by the family for her first couple of years but then had crew and chartered successfully but modestly on both sides of the Atlantic (Nathalie our sales assistant in Palma was part of the crew for some years!). The winter of 2017/18 saw a major refit with a new teak deck, full repaint of the superstructure and the fitting of a new generator. Her whole rig was replaced in 2014 as an upgrade to original.

Her second owners purchased her in 2019 and undertook an overhaul to prepare her for a cruising program in the Mediterranean. After sailing successfully in the Mediterranean for a season, a more detailed refit was undertaken. Work carried out 2020 included:

• All new batteries with improved ventilation and storage for the batteries.
• New inverters.
• New insulation in engine room and in the aft stateroom for a quieter ship when cruising.
• New interior leather upholstery and mattresses throughout.
• New watermaker.
• Full upgrade of the air conditioning including new units in the forward and aft cabin that that operate on inverter for quiet night running.
• Full replacement of the electronics with Raymarine i70 with Axiom multifunction displays and P70 autopilot.
• New bimini, sprayhood and some external canvas.
• New Highfield 380 Hypalon RIB with 25hp 4 stroke Yamaha outboard.

Sailing plans were disrupted by Covid and for other family reasons their plans were cut short and TILLY MINT was placed on sale in 2021 and sold later that year to the current German ownership. They have continued to keep her in top shape – assisted by Berthon Spain service team – and have enjoyed their time onboard, but the family situation has changed, and they decide to sell.

TILLY MINT will be serviced and antifouled May 2023 and will be ready for sailing. With her recently updated systems and the important works in 2017-18 she provides the perfect platform for living aboard and relaxed, comfortable, and effortless sailing.

Owner’s Comments

We purchased TILLY MINT with plans to retire from our business and after a few years sailing in the Med to go further and sail the Atlantic and perhaps beyond. We have only been able to sail locally around the Balearics. But enough to know that TILLY MINT sails beautifully – much better than I expected, and she is a joy to be on at sea. Her sails and systems mean she is easily handled by us as a couple – sailing and manoeuvring (which is straightforward as her bowthruster works well and the stern is easily controlled by the propeller).

It was certainly not our intention to sell. However, we are now doing so for family reasons. This is a sad moment for us, but we know that her next owners will have a good looking and well-prepared yacht that is perfect for family blue water cruising.
