Broker’s Comments

The Hardy hull, drawn by Andrew Wolstenholme, is one of the best shapes we have ever driven through broken water – sporting a completely rounded hull shape with a sharp forefoot, fine stem, and a deep, moulded keel to protect her underwater gear. Driving these boats into a heavy head-sea is a thrilling experience, with the flared bows powering the spray aside and cleaving the seas with that high, sharp bow profile. Andrew Wolstenholme has a knack for designing capable hulls, and the proof of the pudding with this one is that the RNLI have a brace of Hardy’s 42s which it uses for in-house helm training.

Having visited the Norfolk yard, where this 32 was built, it is evident that this is traditional British boatbuilding at its best. Hardy are not heavily mechanized, build their own interiors (SARINAH’s American Light Oak is still in great condition – with the evident care of her previous Owners), with hulls being fitted-out labour-intensively by a long-term team of skilled craftsmen. This particular 32DS is very special in that she was professionally refitted by Cockwells of Mylor Bridge, with a remodeling of her interior to accommodate a proper, separate shower, U-shaped galley and sensible modifications to her console, wheelhouse, and deck saloon. These hulls are superbly soft-riding and display how capable this semi-displacement hull really is. As a sea-boat – the design is very hard to fault – combining powerful offshore performance with easily-worked decks, and reliably indestructible interiors that are traditional, yet very livable with.

The Hardy 32DS is a true testament to British boatbuilding at its best, and these hulls were in production from 2000 onwards – providing a properly-built cruising motor-yacht with comfortable accommodation for the offshore cruising couple, and space for friends to join for the ride too. Engine access is simple, with plenty of space around each Yanmar for service points and checks, and her drivetrain is straightforward – with a regular twin-shaft-drive set-up. Notably, she has been fitted with a handy Fischer Panda generator, a new Raymarine navigation suite, new soft furnishings and galley kit – so with her recent aft canopy, heating and calorifier – she is singularly well-prepared to venture afar.

Owner’s Comments

“We purchased Sarinah in 2022 with a vision of creating an “off-grid” capable cruiser with many of the attributes of the considerably more expensive Duchy 35. For this reason, we commissioned Cockwells to undertake the refurbishment in 2023.

Our circumstances have changed and we are reluctant sellers of this special boat.”
