The Regina 38 is a highly regarded Scandinavian cruising yacht designed by Carl Beyer, combining traditional Orust craftsmanship with a comfortable and practical deck saloon layout. The design offers the protection and comfort of an inside steering position while retaining a conventional outside helm in the cockpit, making the yacht particularly well suited to extended cruising in northern waters and changing weather conditions.
One of the defining features of the Regina 38 is her bright, raised saloon. Large windows provide an excellent panoramic view from the saloon and the navigation table, creating a genuine deck saloon experience and allowing those below deck to remain connected with their surroundings. The interior provides generous accommodation for a yacht of this size. There are two separate cabins, with a double berth plus an additional single berth in the aft cabin, a comfortable V-berth in the forward cabin and it is possible to transform the saloon sofa into a bed. A well-equipped galley, inviting saloon and one head with shower complete a practical interior designed for comfortable cruising.
Regina 38, SENIORA REGIDA is a particularly interesting example of the Regina 38. She was privately built by and for the principal of the Orust boatbuilding school, giving her a special connection to the renowned boatbuilding traditions of Orust. Her teak deck was vacuum glued, avoiding unnecessary deck penetrations and reflecting the attention to construction detail found throughout the yacht.
Sail handling is configured for easy short-handed cruising, with in-mast furling mainsail, furling genoa and a furling self-tacking jib. Two electric winches further simplify sail handling. Ground tackle is equally comprehensive, with electric windlasses in both bow and stern, complemented by stainless-steel anchors and chain.
The navigation equipment includes an Axiom chart plotter, Quantum radar, AIS and autopilot, with autopilot control available from both the inside and outside steering positions.
A major recent upgrade is the installation of a new Volvo Penta D2-50 engine in 2026, providing a modern and dependable propulsion package for many years of cruising ahead. A bow thruster provides additional control when manoeuvring in harbours and confined spaces, making SENIORA REGIDA particularly easy to handle when docking or cruising short-handed.
For greater independence when cruising, SENIORA REGIDA is equipped with solar panels, AGM batteries and an isolation transformer, creating a capable electrical system for extended stays aboard.
Combining the Regina 38’s protected deck saloon concept, versatile sail plan, dual steering positions and genuine Orust heritage, SENIORA REGIDA offers an appealing package for sailors looking for a comfortable, substantial and easily handled Scandinavian cruising yacht.
