Broker’s Comments

Trawler 52 Class A (Ocean), SOTERIA was built for a yachtsman who wanted to move to power. He was very involved with the build and wanted a motor yacht that had good range, was sea kindly and could maintain reasonable passage times with additional speed available for short bursts to beat the weather if needed. SOTERIA was built in Turkey but classified to Recreational Craft Directive Rules at Category A.

She is a handsome looking Trawler yacht with smart green livery. She has a large flybridge and aft deck as well as wide side decks – she is perfect for family cruising.

Down below, there is a comfortable deck saloon with galley and a lovely bridge. Light floods in. Forward the lower deck has the owners’ stateroom and a VIP cabin – both with en-suite heads compartments. Aft there is a large engine room housing the Cummins main engine, generator and other services. A crew cabin is aft with 2 bunks, head and shower.

SOTERIA is fully equipped for relaxed and capable Mediterranean cruising. Her owner maintains her immaculately including new Burmese teak decks fitted in 2021 because he was not happy with the Flexideck solution originally fitted. She is ready to cruise.

Owner’s Comments

I have been sailing for many years, taking part in many races as well as cruising extensively. I am a Turkish citizen living in Switzerland. After selling my last 80 foot sailing yacht I decided to buy a trawler. I looked carefully at the market and the brands available both new and on the brokerage market.

At the top of my list after this evaluation were Privateer trawlers for their quality and sea worthiness. In 2016, I decided to ask them to build me a 50 foot Privateer. Unfortunately, they were unable to provide the level of customization that I wanted. I appreciated that they were building production yachts and the level of personal choice in the design that I wanted was not feasible for them to deliver. Therefore, I decided to commission a build to my exact wish, in Turkey.

After some searching, I found Marlin Yachting and we agreed to work together on the project. A suitable workshop and designer were found. Project studies started based on the Privateer range. In this way, we achieved the look that I wanted but with my design ideas and features.

The hull of the yacht, which began manufacture by Proto LTD and Marlin Yachting in Gökova, Muğla’s Ula district in 2017, was constructed from 3-layers of rigid composite material. In other words – while the hull was being built, both surfaces of the first layer were sealed with polyester. After one side of the second layer was sealed, the other side of the layer was fixed/laminated. Then one side of the third layer was sealed and the other side was fixed/laminated. The hull thickness is 384mm was much greater than the criteria required for CE Category A. Underwater, SOTERIA has 5-layers of 500 gr polyester.

All machinery, equipment and systems were installed by Marlin Yachting and the yacht was completed and launched at the end of August 2018.

SOTERIA has high stability with her three-ton keel and offers more economical motoring compared to gyroscope systems without the same risk of failure. Gyroscope-style systems require regular maintenance. During the design phase, we looked at the gyroscopic system carefully and submitted our ideas to the CE certification authorities. However, when they took into consideration the fact that there are no defects affecting the stability of the hull and the existing keel is sufficient, they did not approve this system for SOTERIA.
Thanks to SOTERIA’s epoxy resin composite structure, there is absolutely no risk of osmosis. Her hydrostatic values/stability are superior in comparison to other motor yachts in the same class. She is a sea worthy yacht. There are two double en-suite cabins with shower and toilet on-board. We also allowed for a crew cabin with toilet and shower facilities.

SOTERIA operates at 220v, thanks to the electronics, systems, satellite system, tank capacities and air conditioning systems in her inventory, she is perfect to me when spending time at sea and in remote islands.

Access to SOTERIA is via hydraulic gangway, which is also deployed as a davit for the dinghy bringing it onto the swim step. As you can appreciate, Privateer yachts are designed for the upper latitudes, so the exterior and cockpit areas are not spacious. As I wanted to use SOTERIA in the Mediterranean, the exterior spaces are extensive. There is a table and seating in the cockpit where 8-10 people can easily be entertained. SOTERIA provides the alfresco living that cruising in warm waters is all about. There is a ladder in the cockpit leading to the flybridge. Electric winches are deployed just behind the cleats on the starboard/port stern to be used in rope maneuvers. During the construction phase, the deck was covered with flexi teak. I had them replaced with 12mm Burmese teak in 2021, as they did not feel natural to me and I thought we would do better with natural teak.

The flybridge is large. There is a seating area for guests’ right next to the second wheelhouse and navigation panel. In this section, there is a grill, a refrigerator and a sink.

SOTERIA is ready to cruise and can be delivered to her new homeport by sea. I am very happy to provide the fullest information about the construction and design of SOTERIA and this information is always available on request. I am sadly giving up on yachting and I have priced my lovely trawler yacht to sell for this reason. Viewing is easily arranged via my brokers but I have asked that no offers are made prior to personal inspection to make things simpler.

I will be sorry to say goodbye to SOTERIA. She is a well-found motor yacht and perfect for Mediterranean cruising. Building and cruising with her have both been a great experience.
