Broker’s Comments

EVRIKA is a striking S&S design, built by Nautor Swan in 1982, and n°36, near the end of the series, that many believe delivered the best looking yacht in the world. EVRIKA is a special version, fitted with the mast of the sloop version and 3 tons of lead has been added to the keel. She is only in her fourth ownership. Built for an owner whose daughter campaigned her successfully on the regatta circuit for 2 years, winning the Rolex European Swan Cup in 1984, before selling her to her second owner, Richard Wright, the keyboard of the Pink Floyd group. He kept her for 25 years and used her in a purely cruising role. She sailed in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean and is a very well-known yacht.

The third owner bought her in the UK via Berthon in 2012 and undertook a major refit with the idea in mind that the yacht would then offer 10 years of total reliability. Work included, re-wiring, new plumbing, and many onboard systems were replaced or refitted. However, the most important and major work was the replacement of her internal metal keelson. Efforts were taken to retain her originality – for example, she still has the original Baby Blake WCs, which were rebuilt and electrified. After this refit she had a successful cruising programme on both sides of the Atlantic.

In 2019-2020 she was again in refit to prepare her for the Ocean Globe Race and the work list was very comprehensive including new teak decks, newly painted superstructure, painted deck areas and painted spars, new s/s rod rigging, and a retractable bowthruster was fitted. At that time her systems were again totally reworked, and much was replaced, including the generator. Checks included the required NDT keel, skeg and rudder inspections.

After that refit she crossed the Atlantic and cruised the Caribbean and returned to the UK.
However, the owner decided not to take her on the OGR project and hence she became available and sold quickly in March 2022. In her fourth ownership she started the OGR in September 2023, returning in April 2024. She spent the summer in Brittany and in the autumn sailed to Swan Service in Badalona for a “refresh” after the trip and to be returned to full cruising mode.

Despite the major upgrades during her various refits, the interior is totally original. EVRIKA retains her S&S Swan soul, and both internally and on deck she achieves a combination of chic and practicality. Every so often, a seriously special yacht comes to the brokerage market. This is one such yacht.

EVRIKA sails under French registration and EU tax was paid in France in June 2023.

Owner’s Comments

I previously owned a Swan 411 and the Swan 65-014 CASSIOPEIA. I regretted selling her. I was looking for a yacht to make the OGR. I found a Swan 651-01 and started preparing her. But sadly she was lost in boatyard accident and I needed urgently to acquire a replacement, fate and good luck found me EVRIKA and we have had a wonderful experience together. With my family and my friends, we have sailed more than 30.000 nm in one year around the world… passing the 3 major capes, through every type of weather without any problem. EVRIKA is really a fantastic sailing boat, very safe, very strong, always comfortable and very easy to handle.

There is still onboard an original “promotional not for sale” collection of CD-ROM of the Pink Floyd group, as well as four Pink Floyd albums framed on the walls of the forward cabin.
