Moody DS54 #048 OUTNUMBERED, was ordered by her current owners and delivered in the summer of 2017. One of the popular and cleverly Judel/Vrolijk and Bill Dixon designed Moody DS54 series, and is one of the highest specified examples that have been built to date.
She features a stunning dark blue painted hull, including painting the inner coamings and transom and on deck, she has teak decks and distinctive lime green sunbrella exterior cushions with a sun bed. The interior is finished in American Cherry and includes leather wrap around seating in the saloon table area, a deck level U-shaped galley and separate Nav table with good external visibility.
Custom ‘Lava’ Corian countertops, she is the galley-up version, equipped with extra twin-drawer fridge-freezers, icemaker, dishwasher, a washing machine, diesel heater, 60,000BTU air conditioning, generator, watermaker, and much more.
Extremely easy to sail yet very fast, the yacht is equipped with twin electric furlers, a self-tacking jib, and electric in-mast furling. Many of the sheet blocks have been upgraded to Harken ball bearing ones.
Forward, there is a sail locker, followed by the owner’s cabin with a large centerline bed and en-suite head and large shower. Aft of that is the large guest cabin to port, with a transverse double bed featuring an ensuite second head and shower, with a second guest cabin to starboard.
Aft of the saloon is a fourth twin-berth cabin, another head, and a washer-dryer. In the cockpit, there is a large, varnished fold-out table, with a strait see to starboard and a wraparound settee to port and a drinks fridge. Additionally, there is a large cockpit locker containing the watermaker another freezer, and extensive equipment storage. Under the rear deck is a dinghy stowage area accessible via the hydraulic fold-down swim platform. A removeable 50-gallon flexible fuel storage tank provides for extended range while motoring.
OUTNUMBERED has spent most of her time being cruised in New England in the summers and the BVI’s for most winters. She has had continual maintenance and upgrades, and looks fantastic! The replacement cost would be at least $2.0 million.
OUTNUMBERED has been a family second-home – moving seasonally between Newport and the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Many upgrades and improvements have been performed, and no expense has been spared in keeping all systems current. She has been hauled out at least once – and often twice – per year for preventative maintenance and constant inspection. Rig inspections and necessary repairs (or improvements) have been performed prior to each delivery. Sails were upgraded to high-performance, dark grey Elvstrøm Epex sails (jib, genoa and main) in November 2022.
