Southerly 38s are renowned for being safe, go-anywhere sailing yachts, and MOONDANCER is an excellent example of this very popular model. Her hydraulic swing keel allows you to creek-crawl, seeking out the shallowest of anchorages, and she can dry out if required. Not only this, but with the keel lowered she achieves a good turn of speed. With twin wheels, a Selden fractional rig, twin rudders, all lines led aft, and a large, deep cockpit, any sailor is safe and secure in all weathers. MOONDANCER is further enhanced by a rare bathing platform and ladder – ideal for swimming off the back of the boat.

Down below, she feels much larger than her overall size, and the distinctive deck saloon-style windows provide panoramic views, giving an instant feeling of space. The chart table is in a raised position for good visibility and easy communication with the cockpit. The open galley is well equipped, with large work surfaces, a fully gimballed oven, stainless steel twin sinks, a top-loading stainless steel fridge, and plenty of stowage, providing excellent facilities for entertaining in style. Overall, she offers accommodation for seven in two cabins and the saloon. The aft cabin is a particular feature for a yacht of this size, with a full-size centreline double berth, extra seating, and access to an en-suite. The forward cabin offers a twin or double berth and benefits from an en-suite.

The Southerly 38 MOONDANCER has been sailed locally in and around the Solent, the West Country, the Channel Islands, and Northern France with her family. Owner’s Comments

MOONDANCER is a delight to sail, with an impressive sail plan. Everything is led back to the cockpit, making her easily handled by a couple or even single-handed. Her self-tacking jib makes going about completely fuss-free, and she is easily manoeuvred in marinas thanks to her bow and stern thrusters. Her swing keel allows her to explore anywhere, and we have happily beached her in Brittany and the Scillies. The rare bathing platform and ladder make swimming from the stern effortless.

A spacious aft cabin with an island bed and en-suite toilet and shower provide luxurious accommodation for extended stays on board, while guests enjoy their own en-suite facilities in the fore cabin.

We are parting with MOONDANCER reluctantly and will miss her very much.
