The Polish boatyard Northman Shipyard is well known and highly respected throughout Europe in the modern powerboat segment, producing boats in the 6–13 metre range. The shipyard has also attracted international attention and has been nominated for prestigious awards such as European Powerboat of the Year.

Northman Shipyard began building powerboats in 2012. In 2018, the company expanded its powerboat range by introducing its own luxury powerboat line, Northman, with the launch of the Northman 1200.

There are no publicly available figures for the total number of Northman 1200 powerboats produced. The shipyard states that its overall production capacity exceeds 150 boats per year across its entire range, including sailboats and other models, but production figures for individual models are not published.

The engine configuration provides a comfortable cruising speed of around 6–7 knots, which is particularly well suited to cruising in the archipelago. At this speed, fuel consumption can be kept to approximately 1.1–1.5 litres per nautical mile. The boat’s dimensions and relatively shallow draft also make her well suited to canal cruising.

One of the features that distinguishes the Northman 1200 JABA II is her bright and spacious deck saloon, which combines the helm station, a comfortable seating area with sofa, and the galley in one open and functional space.

The aft wall features a large double door that folds open to the sides. At the end of the galley worktop, a glass hatch can be folded upwards, creating a convenient serving opening onto the aft deck.

The aft deck is protected by a roof with canopy sides that can be rolled down. This creates a pleasant and versatile outdoor seating area that can be enjoyed both on warm, sunny summer days and on cooler evenings.

The flybridge features a second helm station with two fixed helm seats, providing a comfortable and enjoyable position from which to operate the boat. There is also a U-shaped sofa, with cushions that can be arranged to create a spacious sunbathing area.

The layout offers excellent accommodation for both the owners and guests. The forward cabin serves as the owner’s cabin, while two additional guest cabins provide generous sleeping accommodation. There are also two toilets, an unusually generous arrangement for a boat of this size.

The owners purchased JABA II new for the 2023 summer season. The boat has been well maintained, and in my opinion, she is in very good condition. A new owner can therefore move aboard with confidence and immediately begin enjoying new adventures in the archipelago.

Owner’s Comments

We are a couple in our seventies with three great, shared passions: the sea, the mountains, and skiing. We spend around six months of the year in the mountains, including the entire winter, and about four months at sea.

Our life at sea began with a small J/17. She was a joy to sail, but oh, so cramped—not least for a 190 cm-tall man! We soon upgraded to a Bellona 23, which at the time seemed wonderfully spacious. She was also a good sailor, but as we started wanting to spend several months at sea, the need for more space became increasingly apparent.

Our next boat was a Bavaria 36, which we enjoyed for 18 fantastic years. As we got older, our priorities changed. More comfort, more space, and, above all, enough standing headroom became essential. After numerous visits to boat shows, and countless hours spent browsing and reading brochures for all kinds of boats, we eventually chose the fantastic boat we have today.

What attracted us most was the generous storage space, excellent standing headroom, two toilets, two guest cabins, and the modern, functional design. The flybridge is an added bonus, especially for sun lovers like us.

During our travels in the Baltic Sea, both north and south, we have received many questions about where she comes from, along with plenty of comments about how ‘nice’ she is when visiting guest harbours.

She has proved to be safe, comfortable, and reliable in all the sea conditions we have encountered. However, we have not put her to the test in gale-force conditions.
