LEAP OF FAITH is a one owner from new example of the Southerly 35RS, one of the most successful models produced by Northshore Yachts. Designed by Rob Humphreys, the 35 RS is well regarded for her practical cruising layout, easy handling and ability to cover ground comfortably in a wide range of conditions.
The raised saloon arrangement gives the interior an open feel with excellent natural light and good visibility from the seating area and chart table. Accommodation is well thought out, with a generous aft cabin, practical galley and comfortable living space that works well for extended time aboard.
On deck, the self-tacking jib and sensible sailplan make the boat straightforward to manage short-handed, while the twin rudder arrangement provides good control underway. The lifting keel system is one of the defining features of the design and opens up cruising areas inaccessible to many yachts of similar size.
LEAP OF FAITH now offers an opportunity for a new owner to put their own stamp on a very capable cruising yacht. She will suit buyers looking for a practical and versatile boat with plenty of potential.
Why did we choose the boat?
Southerly had a reputation for producing solid and well-designed yachts. We had the added excitement of watching her being built and had some say in specifications. The lifting keel gave us much more flexibility in being able to access shallow destinations when other boats were waiting for tides. Lifting the keel, fully or partially, is useful when reaching or running.
She beaches easily onto sand. (Great fun In Bembridge and the Isles of Scilly)
The twin rudders make steering assured: she is solid and handles well in rough conditions. Her compact size and self-tacking jib allowed single-handed cross channel sailing. We particularly liked the raised saloon which was light and airy. There is good visibility while underway and alongside.
The galley is well laid out with plenty of easily accessible storage. We liked the roominess of the aft cabin and the great use of space.
We have enjoyed trips to Normandy, Brittany the Isles of Scilly and multiple passages to all of the Channel Islands. We have also explored the south coast from Chichester around the Solent and down to Devon and Cornwall.
Many sunrises and sunsets have been photographed and great memories made as a couple and with our grown-up family.
