FPB 97 ICEBERG is the largest and fastest of the FPB series. There are 18 Functional Power Boats in the fleet and between them they have crossed oceans many times. They have cruised extensively in the Tropics as well as the cold places with several visiting Svalbard in Norway and FPB 78s GREY WOLF and IRON LADY cruising in company in Antarctica.
Their larger sister ICEBERG is for sale and she is lying in Palma de Mallorca where she can easily be viewed, current restrictions allowing. She has been maintained in extraordinarily good shape and she too, can tell of ocean crossing and adventures of a type not feasible for most explorer yachts in her segment.
You can see a walkthrough of her here:-
FPBs are the ultimate tool for serious cruising, offering speed, enormous range, massive construction, recovery from capsize and unparalleled steering control. This enables them to visit all the precious wild places on our planet reliably. Enormous emphasis is placed on access to all systems to allow for maintenance and repair outside service periods if needed when out cruising.
ICEBERG is not about the number of berths aboard, or the size of the aft deck (although it is generous). It is not about what she is, but where she will take you. We were keen to explore the nuts and bolts of the yacht with her designer, Steve Dashew, who with his wife Linda has designed and been intimately involved with every FPB built.
Sue Grant chats with him about the initial design of ICEBERG, the testing that was undertaken by him and Linda aboard their FPB 83 WINDHORSE (a 90% scale model of ICEBERG) and about what it is that makes ICEBERG so special:
