SERAPHINA OF CHICHESTER has already enjoyed a remarkable cruising life. Now, the time has come for her next chapter.
This Island Packet 440 remains very much cared for and enjoyed by her current owners, who have made the difficult decision that the time has come for her to find a new home. With her asking price recently reduced to £285,000, UK VAT paid, the opportunity to own this proven Island Packet 440 has become particularly compelling.
There is something about an Island Packet 440 that makes people stop and look. Even among the many impressive that surround her in Gibraltar, SERAPHINA continues to turn heads and attract admiring comments from passes by. Her distinctive profile, substantial construction and purposeful presence speak immediately of a yacht designed to go places.
And SERAPHINA has done exactly that.
Her cruising life has taken her from the Baltic and the beautiful Swedish west coast to the palm-fringed islands of the Caribbean, giving her owners and family the opportunity to experience two very different cruising worlds.
The cruising around Orust, in the heartland of some of Scandinavia’s most celebrated yacht builders, brought SERAPHINA into waters where well-built cruising yachts are deeply appreciated. As her owner recalls:
“One particularly memorable period was cruising the Baltic and the beautiful Swedish west coast, including the Orust area – the heartland of some of Scandinavia’s most famous yacht builders. Hallberg-Rassys understandably abound in those waters, so the arrival of an American-built Island Packet 440 offered something rather different. We were frequently struck by the interest SERAPHINA generated amongst Swedish sailors, who were pleased to see a serious bluewater cruising yacht that was a little out of the ordinary. In an area where people really know and appreciate well-built cruising yachts, SERAPHINA’s distinctive profile, substantial construction and practical cruising layout attracted a great deal of interest and admiration”.
It is perhaps fitting that a yacht built in America should have made such an impression in a corner of the world so deeply associated with Scandinavian yacht building. SERAPHINA was clearly different, but she belonged there too. She stood out as a serious cruising yacht in waters where quality, practicality and seaworthiness are understood and appreciated.
From the cool waters of Scandinavia, SERAPHINA eventually found herself in an entirely different cruising world. She proved equally at home amongst the turquoise waters and trade winds of the Caribbean, cruising from St Lucia south towards Grenada and then north again towards Antigua, visiting Bequia, Union Island, the Tobago Cays, Carriacou and Grenada along the way.
These were precisely the waters and passages for which the Island Packet 440 was conceived: comfortable passages between islands followed by peaceful days at anchor, with the yacht providing a secure and welcoming home wherever the cruising took her.
For a family, this is where the appeal of the Island Packet really comes into its own. The miles between islands are only part of the story. Equally important are the quiet mornings at anchor, the evenings spent aboard and the reassuring feeling of having a capable, comfortable yacht beneath you.
Following her Caribbean adventures, SERAPHINA was shipped back across the Atlantic to Southampton in 2018. Since then, her owners have continued to invest in her and keep her ready for the next passage.
New standing rigging was fitted following her return and remains in pristine condition, while more recently she has benefited from a new suit of Bainbridge HSX-V sails, chosen for durability, shape retention and dependable offshore performance.
Her engine has also recently been professionally serviced. She is regularly cleaned and polished and remains exceptionally well presented on her berth in Gibraltar.
SERAPHINA is not simply a yacht designed and specified for bluewater cruising, she is a yacht that has actually done it.
After all the miles, islands, anchorages and experiences shared aboard SERAPHINA, her owners hope she will pass to someone who understands what she represents. SERAPHINA is a thoroughly proven family bluewater cruising yacht, with a history that reaches from the Baltic to the Caribbean and the capability to continue that journey for many years to come.
For her current owners, selling marks the end of a very special chapter. But for her next owner, it could be the beginning of another…
