If you are after an aft cabin semi-displacement motor-cruiser, especially from a reliable UK builder, then there is a fairly short list to choose from; but Broom Boats will definitely make an appearance. Three cabins, two bathrooms, a decent galley area and a lounge with plenty of space are all on the tick list – put these together with a no-nonsense seaworthy hull, and you have the 450. This model is not only for marina-living, she is also a very competent passage-maker – so her current owners (very experienced and adventuring yachtsmen) elected to put this to the test, set a bit of time aside, give her a birthday and head off to pastures new.
To truly appreciate MIRIELLE, take the video tour here:
MIRIELLE has recently returned from a dreamy trip to the Baltic, and is now ready for her future owners to set the compass for her next adventure. Having been treated to a proper refit in 2018 with her builders at Broom Boats, she has new canvas, batteries, smart new Flexiteek decks, new exterior upholstery and is beautifully presented. 550 hours are shown on her twin Volvo Penta D9s (500HP apiece), which were serviced in Spring 2019 during her Swedish tour, her Fischer Panda 12kW generator was freshly serviced in July 2018, and she is also fitted with a Mastervolt Inverter. Access to her engine space is either through the aft cabin steps, or via a large pair of hatches in the saloon floor – with the rest of the floor panelled, if further access is needed. Her Eberspacher diesel heating has kept her crew warm and happy through their travels, and the wide open-plan saloon is a great place to curl up with a book and take in the view.
Performance-wise – she is unlikely to win the Blue Riband, but is very happy to cruise in the low twenties, with a top out of 28 knots, and that renowned John Bennett hull is extremely comfortable through the water on longer passages. Being a heavier build (16 tons dry) she has the moment to cope with broken choppier waters, resisting the tendency to thump and slam, and thus being far more relaxing to be on board.
MIRIELLE is not only equipped with Northern climes in mind, she has a three-unit Climma Air-conditioning system too, and her new canvas hood is simple to drop, or erect, depending on the weather, so you can enjoy the sun, or keep out the rain. If you are heading inland and need to cope with bridges and reduce air draft, then the radar arch can be hydraulically raised and lowered, and she has full nav. kit with charts to cover all of her travels. The aft cockpit has been remodelled, with new upholstery improving seating comfort, whilst still giving easy access to the handy locker space in the framing. Stowage is a priority below decks also, with hanging lockers to all cabins, masses of volume for provisions around the galley, and good-sized tanks.
