From 2002, to designs by Ron Holland with an unmistakable Ken Freivokh interior, the Discovery 55 has won hearts and minds the world over with their elegant good looks, proper deck saloon, proper interior watch keeping position and generous accommodation for a couple with space enough for a further 4 crew in utmost comfort. Their furling rigs with swept back spreaders, self-tacking jib and total control from the cockpit is perfect for 2 handed sailing for all oceans.
PAMELA cruised extensively with her last owners, until bought by the current yachtsman at which point a refit was in order. Here is a video about this process:-
The refit was extensive and work included –
The list of other works including Watt and Sea generator and so much more is long and can be found in the full specification here: –
Just before the sale in 2016, the previous owners had replaced the generator. She also has lots of nice touches like a hydraulic Besenzoni passerelle, recent topsides paint and much more.
The brief was to prepare the yacht for the World ARC and she is most certainly ARC ready today as the programme of update continues.
In this ownership she has cruised the North Atlantic and sailed to the Canaries. The owner’s plans have now changed and he has decided that he will not make this voyage and have this adventure himself. However, PAMELA most certainly could.
Easily sailed by a couple, the Discovery 55 is long legged and has a very easy motion in a sea. Since the main refit was completed, all the niggles have been found and sorted. PAMELA is currently based in the beautiful city of Valencia where viewing can be arranged dependant on current and future restrictions.
Here is a walk through video which shows PAMELA as she looks today: –
