Discovery 55, MERLYN III – A Bluewater Magic Carpet
May 26th, 2023
Discovery 55, MERLYN III has had just one owner since her launch in 2012 and boasts an impressive specification. The Ron Holland-designed Discovery 55 sets a high benchmark for luxury, push button cruising and these yachts have gained a strong reputation amongst sailors for being able to do extensive bluewater cruising with limited or full crew.
Now captured on film, see her walkthrough video here:
On deck, there is a powerful yet manageable sail plan with “pushbutton” powered sail handling systems accessible from the cockpit. In the bow, there is an upgraded Spade 200 anchor with 100m of chain and electric windless control at the helm and at the stern; she has electric davits with an Avon 3.40 rib with a 9.9hp Yamaha outboard.
Down below MERLYN III has three good-sized cabins; the owner’s stateroom is directly aft, with two guest cabins forward. The forward cabin has a double bed that is 6’8” long with plenty of storage. To port the Pullman cabin offers spacious twin bunks and opposite is the forward head and shower.
The main saloon is what makes the Discovery 55 unique, with raised seating for seven, and panoramic views of the ocean outside – perfect when the weather is at its worst!
Her linear galley offers a safe design to lock you in place when under way, plenty of cooking space, a two-door refrigerator with a 10.4 cu.ft capacity and a well-insulated 6.1 cu.ft capacity freezer.
Aft of the galley is the master stateroom, offering a king sized bed measuring 6’6” long by 5’ 9” wide, excellent storage and aft head plus access to the walk in engine room.
MERLYN III specifications includes a new 7kva Onan generator, full tropical air conditioning and heating, Wi-Fi antenna, 2019 Kemp main sail, upgraded Lithium Ion batteries with Mastervolt system and much much more!
