Finest British built design ever offered – Bowman 48, BOANDARO
November 28th, 2022
Largest of Chuck Paine’s Bowman yachts, the Bowman 48 has been long recognized by the yachting establishment as being the finest British built design ever offered to the conservative long distance sailor. With only ten built, they have had, over the years, a wonderful reaction from any yachtsmen who prefer a vessel that is virtually bulletproof. While this makes for a heavy displacement, give them a good breeze and they will maintain good speed on long passages and offer uncompromising safety.
Bowman 48, BOANDARO has had comprehensive refits, with the current owner, over the years. Unusually she is the only Bowman 48 with a centre cockpit, as the mould was changed for the later Deck Saloon model.
Watch the movie:
On deck, you will find plenty of space for crew.
While at sea, you have the cutter rig offering a powerful sail area to keep her moving in light conditions as well as adequate power beating in brisk offshore conditions.
You cannot make her slam, and downwind her keel and balanced ends means that she tracks very steadily.
She is also easy to sail single handed, and the owner has done many long trips in such a way.
Her rig has been updated recently with new standing rigging, furling gear, refurbished Lewmar clutches and masthead sheaves (all in 2020.) As well as a new mainsail, yankee and staysail in 2011. Plus, many other updates over the years.
Down below on Bowman 48 BOANDARO, you will find an excellent layout with living quarters all on one level, compared to the deck saloon version. To port there is a full sized chart table, with access to electrical systems and updated navigation equipment. While in the saloon, there is seating with a teak folding table to allow dining comfortably for eight people.
She offers three spacious cabins, with a large owner’s cabin aft with en suite and forward you have two cabins with twin bunks in each. Another benefit is the linear gallery and excellent access to the engine room.
A few more notable upgrades:
New AGM Ah24v battery bank in March 2021.
New sprayhood, bimini and cockpit enclosure 2021.
New starter motor and fuel lift pump July 2020.
Coppercoat antifouling renewed completely in 2019.
New Lewmar V5 windlass in 2017.
Deck re-caulked and refurbished 2008.
Complete new fuel system 2008.
For those looking to go further afield, all she needs is just fuel and food, as she is fully equipped and ready to go for her next adventures.
