When Steve and Linda Dashew of Dashew Offshore decided that that an ‘unsailboat’ might be a good replacement for their 78’ BEOWULF, they lofted the plans of the first of the FPBs – and this was WIND HORSE. A lot of research went into the design, as they wanted a motor boat that would be strong, fast and capable in all sea conditions. Exactly like all their sailing boats.
History of FPB 83’ WIND HORSE
WIND HORSE was launched in 2005, and the Dashews clocked up over 60,000 nautical miles aboard WIND HORSE cruising part time. As with their previous boats, the majority of these nautical miles were accomplished two handed. Not only was she their magic carpet, she was also the inspiration for the design of the FPB 64, of which 11 hulls were built, the FPB 97 ICEBERG and the 3 x FPB 78s including COCHISE, their final FPB.
In her current ownership she has been cruised extensively short-handed and also looked after beautifully. One of the glories of WIND HORSE is her high gloss Burma teak interior installed by Kelly Archer and it is still in extraordinarily good shape.
She has just been dropped in price to US$3.75m as her owners are keen to sell.

Exploring the Accommodation & Deck Equipment of FPB 83’ WIND HORSE
WIND HORSE at 83’ is long and then with a chequer plate deck and small flybridge, which was developed into the matrix deck on later yachts. The aft deck has ample room for two dinghies and a large swim step.
Down below she has an iconic great room with a large galley aft and saloon and steering position forward. She has 360 degree vision and this is a great place to watch keep, eat, hang out and to enjoy the world slide past.
Forward there is a generous owners’ stateroom with a double berth, large wardrobes, bath and en-suite heads.
Walking aft are two guest cabins – a double and a twin each with en-suite heads compartments and a shared shower stall leading into a fantastic engine room.
WIND HORSE is powered by 2 x 150hp John Deeres that deliver a range of around 6,000 nautical miles. She is able to surf off the wind and her displacement cruise of 12 knots gives her the speed and endurance to outrun adverse weather conditions.
